Spc. Monica Brown

Here’s the deal, you are a medic. You are in Afghanistan. You are part of a combat platoon. Your platoon takes on the bad guys regularly. One day your squad has all hell break lose. Heavy Taliban fire stops your vehicles. Mortars are coming at you. Guys are severely injured in one of the Humvees. The vehicle is on fire. Ammo is exploding. You are a medic. Under fire you run to the burning vehicle. You get the injured into a ditch. Now when it gets real dangerous you throw yourself over your injured patients to protect them from additional harm from a crossfire and exploding ordinance. The shit keeps coming until finally more of your platoon can get in and get you all to safety. As you drive away the only thing you do it treat your wounded comrades. You keep them alive until they can be Medivaced to a hospital. They survive. You are a Medic! You put your life on the line for others. That is the stuff of a hero. What do you get? You get a Silver Star, a promotion, and you get yanked from your unit. Why did you get removed from your unit? Oh, forgot to tell you, you happen to be Specialist Monica Brown. And per the Shrub, "no women in combat." It’s been a rule since 1992. Welcome to the misogynistic version of "don’t ask, don’t tell."

Please read the entire account of Spc Brown’s heroism. Watch the vid. Choke up. Then get real pissed at generals and a president.
