The Truth is Hard Work and Complicated

Once again the CIA may become the focus of national attention. Did the CIA hide a program from Congress? Did they lie about the program? Of course they did. They can't help themselves. That kind of behavior is in the genes of the folks who work there. And that is why we need oversight and periodically have to air out the little boy's club. Hm, can we rid ourselves of this club?

Of course, with the GOP flat on its butt, they will use this issue to score points against the evil Nancy. As they rail against the Speaker, most of us will lose sight that they will be defending unethical and illegal behavior along the way. Does it matter whether the illegalities were committed under a Republican or Democratic president? It shouldn't, but politics is a game of contributions and votes. Even though party does not matter, what does matter is how the intelligence challenged members of Congress think it may affect their reelection.

Sadly, as the pols in the Congressional clubhouse dare each other to knock chips from each others shoulders (on cable news of course) and Obama defends the CIA (with a really good speech), we will watch ourselves edge a bit closer to becoming the world's first super banana republic.
