Bust Rizzo? Seems like a good idea.

Bust who?  Oh, John Rizzo.  He's the CIA's legal justifier of whatever otherwise illegal crap they want to do. I wonder what he tells his kids he does at work.  Why bust his ass? It's a matter of drones killing people in Pakistan.  Damn, running a brutal empire is hard work.  A UK human rights lawyer has the right idea.  Bust 'em, try 'em, convict 'em and if we do it enough maybe there will be fewer of 'em in the future.  Then again, one day pigs might fly.

Campaigners seek arrest of former CIA legal chief over Pakistan drone attacks

What else would you expect?

Would you expect otherwise?  Do you really think the U.K. government would say they had been bought by Murdoch and serviced him well? Come on, pervs always deny they are pervs.  Oh, sorry, they're not pervs, they're whores (read the sidebar from Mencken).

War #7?

If Mexican drug cartels make attacks on U.S. soil and raid our Consulate in Juarez, would those be considered acts of war?  If not war, then of sufficiently bad behavior so that we can send in the Marines or whomever we have back from all of our other wars.  Running an empire is hard work.  War might be Obama's way to fulfill that campaign promise about immigration.

Say What?

The GOP is splitting in two!  There is the traditional rich old white guys wing and then there is the sons of rich old white guys wing.  Both assume Jesus is on their side and not the other.   Oddly enough, the older of the two are said to be more flexible than the younger.  Of course flexibility is a relative attribute.  To most people steel is about as rigid as titanium.  I guess it's really a case of a wingnuts for lunch bunch versus a stuffed with batshit slob mob.  May their differences be perpetual, become more than heartfelt and run very deep.

House GOP splits into 2 camps: One flexible, one not

In Murdoch's Image

As his minions found creative ways to conform with their masters weltanschauung, their actions laid the foundation for their own and several others demise. To please a rich prick they broke the law and really pissed off a lot of people.  One paper gone.  One TV deal gone.  Possibly more papers to be gone.  Loyal, and among the most well paid and most creative conformers, minions gone.  If there is a god in heaven, can FOX News be next and be gone.  Don't forget hacking 9/11 victim's cellphones is being investigated.  I wonder if Roger Ailes at FOX has his shredders running overtime?

It's a boy and farm story

You can take Michelle out of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, but you can never take the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod out Michelle Bachmann.

The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod is a conservative branch of Lutheranism that has about 390,000 adherents across the country. It has been criticized in part because it holds that the Catholic pope is the Antichrist. Bachmann has said emphatically that she does not share that view, and church officials recently told the Atlantic that it is not a central tenet of the faith.

Is she had not decided to become more well known for her well knownness, do you really think she would have bagged her membership in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church? What is she afraid of? I thought faith was important to the Jesus crowd.  Why do these religious creeps try to shed their clammy skins when they go national? If they have truth on their side why do they fear standing tall and declaring the Pope to be  the....

Ownership is 9/10ths of the law

However, that other 1/10th can can be a bitch.  Especially if you are a vile dictator whom other nations no longer need.  Then if you happen to have a revolting opposition in the field, your foreign assets will be seized.  The cash will be given over to your erstwhile replacements to fund your ultimate demise.  They will be declared to be legitimate and you will become just one more bastard on earth.  The replacements always provide their foreign supporters with choruses of "trust us."  Those are assurances that they will not be a direct replacement, but will be of a new and improved variety.  I wonder what's the track record on that "trust us" front?

At any rate, ObamaCo, in an effort to unload War #4 before Nov. of '12, has decided the revolting team should have the vile one's foreign held assets.  After all, they did say "trust us."  Foreign policy is so much fun, it's better than "Monopoly. "

Attention Gays

By this time you really should understand that Republicans hate you and want you eradicated from the face of the earth.  It's a Jesus thing for them.   You may have thought you had friends amongst the Democrats.  Well it's not your father's Democratic party any more, so dream on, you don't.  They merely  hate you and are indifferent to your life or death.

Debt Ceiling

If the debt ceiling mess baffles you, here's a piece that might shed some light on it.  Of course it avoids a major player in the system, the American voter.  We elected and we support the motley crew of baboons in office and in many cases have done so for years and years.  If pols are whores, I guess that makes us both the pimps and the john.  It's a strange country.

Great news

The Chinese now love pizza and cheeseburgers.  They thought they would bury us in cheap shit.  No way,  we're going to bury them in their own lard just as we quit stuffing ourselves like slobs.  My fellow Americans, this is a food war.  If we are to preserve "The Constitution" and our way of life, then we must all become svelte and eat right.  We must sell all of our cheese to China.  We must sell them all of our junk food.  I can't wait for them to get hooked on deep-fried Twinkies.  Can you imagine what a human wave attack done by grossly obese Chi-comm soldiers would look like?  Would it be a slow roly-poly  charge?   Let's give them a real cultural revolution!

Pizza Demand in Asia Boosts U.S. Cheese Exports

Inflation may be down a tad, but....

Everything else sucks.  Isn't it time to completely turn over all of our elected and appointed officials?  Isn't it time to take the country back from millionaires and billionaires who bribed their way to power?  Isn't it time to put some equity back into the system for the 85%+ of us who make less than $100,000 year?  About the only nice thing I can think of when I ponder the rich, is that, assuming I make to heaven, I won't see a damn one of them.   That needle's eye is an eternal bitch.  They made their call.

Virginia's State Employees Screwed Again

Virgina's state employees have to pay 5% more into their retirement benefit (remember, after the 2008 election, the teabaggers got all uppity and nasty about the evil state workers turning Virginia into a socialist paradise under Obama, come on, Virginia's s red state that is still fighting the Civil War). The Gov. and legislature decided they couldn't just take 5% away, that's dumb politically. So they decided to give workers a 5% raise and then take 5% back.  Workers trusted pols, that was really dumb.

Let's see if you made $100 yesterday and they took 5%, you would be out $5. Today you make $105 and they take 5%, so you pay $5.25.  Note that 25 cents, 5% is not really %5 now is it.  It's not quite fair, especially since employees were given benefits in lieu of salary increases for decades. I hope Virginia's employees return the favor to McDonnell and his GOP minions. Voting for Democrats might be a great start.

VRS contributions affect state employees' take-home pay

Think about the Mexican border

What is life like if you live near our border with Mexico?  What images come to mind?  Do you see deadly violence?  Do you see bodies littering the desert?  Do you people packing for protection? If so, you may have been watching a tad too much TV news and listening to pols a bit too trustingly.

U.S. border cities were statistically safer on average than other cities in their states. Those border cities, big and small, have maintained lower crime rates than the national average, which itself has been falling.

Why foster a climate of fear? Uh, how do you spell "federal spending?" You can bet your legal tender that the money is given to local and state government to spend on safety, of course.

Do you watch Treme?

It's on HBO.  It takes palce in post Katrina New Orleans.  It's a very good show, especially the music.  It's in it's second year and has been renewed for a third year.  If you have not seen it, season one is available on DVD and worth watching.

Cheney's Legacy Lives On!

Over in Legacyland,  Uncle Dick's "Civics R For Pussies" manual for government managers has been well received and its lessons implemented.  Yep, straight from dark White House mansafes to the vaults of Baghdad, Iraq has created a Department of Cheney--

Elite units controlled by Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's military office are ignoring members of parliament and the government's own directive by operating a clandestine jail in Baghdad's Green Zone where prisoners routinely face torture to extract confessions, Iraqi officials say

Cyberwar?

The bemedaled crowd is making plans for dealing with cyber attacks.   However a top medal winner thinks his peers are cyber-pussies.  Should we, actually that is, our leaders, under leader number one, treat cyber attacks as acts of war, by-pass us (Congress) and take us into cyberwar?  Or should we just secretly be defensive and not  return bit for byte?  I wonder what the Constitution says about cyberwar?  We had best pay a bit more attention to this area, it's the next war and it will get real ugly since by then we'll be ready for the Iraq war. Does it matter that we don't manufacture  computers and their parts anymore?  Even the Army buys cheap shit from China. Other than a few guns, is there anything in our arsenal that is made from domestic raw materials into a weapon?  To save money, we've actually given away our national security.

Strategic Victory Watch--War #1

After 10 years of nation wrecking and building, I'm not sure which we have done more of, our allies use the skills we gave them to kill us instead of the Taliban.  Well "us" is indirect, as in the government we created, populated and maintain.  10 years and this is just one more highlight.  Yep, strategic victory is just around the corner.

One more down, how many to go?

Is "hacker" a gendered noun?  If so, does it refer to a male?  I bet it is and is male.  Does that mean a female who circumvents computer security is a hackerette?  That's a rough one, what about an abettor?  Is an abettor male or female?  I'm not sure, but note that Murdoch's abettorette hackerette has quit.

The Commies Won?

How about China?  China is still a communist country.  China is not a free.  China is not liberty loving.  China is not a capitalist nation. Despite some trappings of capitalism, the Chi-comms run the nation.  They have entered the industrial market, adopted some pieces of capitalism, and are proceeding to bury us.  All they have to do is make cheap shit.  We buy it.  We send them our gold.  We quit making goods, we shutter our factories.  Who is burying whom?   Maybe Khrushchev was a closet Maoist.  The weakness of capitalists lies in their categorical lust  for profit, it blinds them to time and politics.  Don't forget Mao killed millions just for commie purity, it can happen again.  It will happen again and we will support them.

U.S. Status as World's Superpower Challenged by Rise of China

In most regions of the world, opinion of the United States continues to be more favorable than it was in the Bush years, but U.S. image now faces a new challenge: doubts about America's superpower status. In 15 of 22 nations, the balance of opinion is that China either will replace or already has replaced the United States as the world's leading superpower. This view is especially widespread in Western Europe, where at least six-in-ten in France (72%), Spain (67%), Britain (65%) and Germany (61%) see China overtaking the U.S.

Suicide attack at Karzai memorial service underscores deteriorating security

Exactly what is the mission these days?  Do you think the average Afghan would prefer more of the same or to restore the Taliban to power?

The GOP will destroy our nation

Here it is from Lindsey Graham--

"Our problem is, we made a big deal about this for three months," Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told The New York Times, illustrating the difficult position in which senior Republicans find themselves.

"How many Republicans have been on TV saying, 'I am not going to raise the debt limit,'" Graham told the newspaper, including himself among the GOP members dealing with the seemingly no-win situation. "We have no one to blame but ourselves."

And the damned thing is, the whole fight is about who gets elected and reelected. The nation does not win, place or show with these folks. Why do we elect schmucks?

Strategic Victory Watch--War #1

If I were an Afghan, I think I'd want the bullets and bombs to stop now.  I doubt that the average Afghan will have much love of Americans or Europeans for generations to come.  We seem to overlook the civilian deaths when we wage wars to keep us safe and protect our freedoms.  It does become confusing, no?

European shares fall as Moody's warns on U.S. debt

President Barack Obama and top Republicans face growing doubts on Thursday about the prospects for reaching a deal to avoid a potentially disastrous U.S. debt default.

Moody's said late on Wednesday it saw a rising possibility that the statutory U.S. debt limit will not be raised on a timely basis, leading to a default on U.S. Treasury debt obligations.

The dollar fell on Moody's warning and on hints of further policy easing from the U.S. Federal reserve. Gold, generally seen as a safe haven asset, hit a record high.

"Moody's comments may shift some attention from the euro zone to the U.S. However, given the uncertainty in the euro zone, our part of the world will continue to get more than its fare share of attention," said Philippe Gijsels, head of research at BNP Paribas Fortis Global Markets in Brussels.

It's global. Will it meltdown? Yep, the lust for power is blinding, especially when home districts are full of shortsighted fools who elect clones.

Fear Industry Congressional Complex (FICC) Watch

Despite the nation's eminent trip in a hand basket to fiscal hell, DHS upholds the long tradition of giving tax dollars to private sector donors for nothing in return. Damn, I'm feeling safer already.

The Department of Homeland Security plans to spend more than $300 million over the next four years on radiation-detection equipment that has not been fully tested and may not work, according to a budget request and an unreleased report by the Government Accountability Office.

I'm not sure what the return rate is in the FICC.  In the MIC a donated dollar yields a bit over $100.  I don't think the FICC is quite at that level but is probably higher than average, $1:$37.  Let's assume it's $50.  Somewhere along the way, the radiation detector vendors must have made deal.  They will give pols about $6,000,000 and the pols will reciprocate with a $300,000,000 contract.  Pols are cheap, they can sell themselves for 2%.  Do we really vote for such cheap bastards?  Yeah, we do.  Over and over again.

Okay Gay GOOPERS Please Explain

What do I want explained?  Oh, how can someone like Michelle Bachmann be a possible GOP nominee?  She hates and fears gays.  She even formed a business to pray the gays away from her.  To her, god hates gays too.  That's weird, since, to her, god made everything, exactly 6, 357 years, 184 days, 12 hours and 16 minutes ago.   Please explain her, since I cannot understand how one who is gay could be a Republican in the first place.

Bachmann under fire over husband’s clinic

Good Question!

Here's the question--Rupert Murdoch criticism reaches the U.S., but will it affect News Corp.?

I hope the answer is yes.

Is there a difference between doing something and along the way making money as opposed to making money by doing something?  I think their is and Mr. Murdoch has used the latter approach his whole life.  He's made a lot of money, but what's he really done?

Civil War App?

Come on an app for death and destruction?  That's what it is.  Sure it guides you through the park, gives you some numbers, and displays pics.  Along the way I doubt anyone will learn that Sherman was most accurate when he said, "War is Hell."  This nation fought a bloody war over slavery.  People in the South wanted to be able to buy and sell people.  People in the North said no to slavery.  600,000 deaths later, slavery ended.  The lust for slavery lingered on for another 100 years as Jim Crow dominated the South.  Today, Jim Crow is gone, but have you noticed where all the Obama hatred comes from?  The Red States in the South?  Is hate uniformly distributed or do red states have an edge?

I don't want an app for war on my phone.  That's not smart at all.  Don't visit battlefields, read about the battles and then use your imagination to come to grips with the stench of war.  Assume the losses, from 1861-1865 were 600,000 men ages 15-50, what would be the counterpart slaughter in 2011?  I'll let you figure that one out.  War does not need an app, it needs to be made no more forever.

Bull Run Battlefield gets an app

GOOPERS Now Eat Their Own Young

As the nation comes closer and closer to fiscal meltdown, the GOP heard Wall St finally speak.  They heard the billionaires tell them, "raise the debt ceiling now."  Sen. McConnell obeyed and came up with an odd but acceptable plan.  The the younger more power hungry party members flipped off their GOP elders.

Rep. Cantor, to become Speaker, is willing to risk the nation defaulting on debt.  When millions of older people, millions of currently unemployed people and, if Cantor has his way,  even more unemployed people, begin to suffer the despair and indignity of poverty, the GOP will dissemble.  As much as that might be desirable, the cost is too high.  Cantor and those of his ilk are flat-assed wrong.   They do not govern, they just demagogue for power.  The folks who vote for them are a sad, sad, lot.  How can people live with such self loathing?

Strategic Victory Watch--War #4

Gee Obama and friends came to the aid of some revolting Arabs in Libya.  They said it was a humanitarian thing.  It seemed a lot like war to me.  Guess what, the revolting Arabs really are quite revolting.

Libyan rebels looted and beat civilians, rights group says

Let's see, Obama and his NATO buddies may have to start a new humanitarian non-war, war to save people from the revolting Arabs as well as Qadaffi.    Damn, who is left to save?   I guess it's us against all of Libya. Time to shock and awe for oil again?  After all, we're about finished in Iraq.

Our education mess

Does anyone still think all the gnashing and rending over public education is about children learning anything at all?  Come on, it's about adults who are employed in the Education Industry Congressional Complex.  Are there better ways to be able to answer president Bush's question, "is our children learning" in the affirmative.  How? Give this piece a read and find out.  Then think about what the EIC has done to you and all those children in good old number onedom.  As I've said before, get rid of the Dept. of Education and start teaching, it would be a good change.

Netflix

Do you subscribe to Netflix?  Did you recieve your price increase e-mail?
Here's the one I received--

Dear Jake,

We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $19.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 3 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $15.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $23.98 a month ($7.99 + $15.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

I watch DVDs and use streaming.  The increase is $3.99 a month.  I am probably in a minority, but that increase is reasonable.  Especially if it keeps Netflix in business, improves their offerings, and lets them maintain their current level of service.  DVDs are the best way I can see new movies in a reasonable time frame--there are no theaters within 40 miles of my house.  Netflix is more reasonably priced than paying new film rates over satellite, I just have to have a bit of patience.  On the streaming side I have found some TV series I missed such as "FarScape" and "Saving Grace" on Netflix.  Then there are all the British series too.  Streaming allows me to see series in a much shorter time frame.  Streaming content has been getting better and better, there's more out there than I will ever want to watch.  $24 a month is cheap and a good buy for me.  I could bag Dish TV more easily than Netflix.  Do you find the increase to be reasonable?

More on Murdock's Sleaze

Hacking phones on 9/11 victims?  Yep, that may have happened.  Look, Murdock just makes money.  Morality, ethics and law are impediments to profit.   His "empire" has been built on sleaze.  He's made a bundle.  Along the way, pols, police and courts have assisted his company's growth.  He spread the sleaze around.   Did anyone expect otherwise?

When religion informs politics you go broke

Here's an example from Utah.  The state is Mormon.  The legislature is Mormon.  Mormons don't like booze.  However, booze is profitable, so legislators have to look for excuses to deep six booze.  When they find an excuse to act, it costs the state money.  This is Republican logic on the state level.  Can you imagine if their Jesus jockeys ever had a Congressional majority or the White House?  That should give everyone the willies.

Mandating light bulbs is okay, but mandating health insurance is not.  I guess the difference is that you  could just sit in the dark.   For a group of folks so concerned with the Constution,  I expected the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act to pass.  It failed.  Bye-bye incandescents, government banishes you.  Effectively goverment is forcing all to buy other kinds of bulbs.  How is this really all that differnet from being forced to buy insurance?  What's different?  Oh, Obama did not sign the bill banning bulbs, the Shrub did in 2007.  I guess there's political mileage in Obamacare but not in Shrubbulbs.

If you still think Arabic nations and democracy can go together, how's Egypt doing these days?  We street  rage.  We saw a dictator toppled.  Of course both were permitted by the Egypt's actual rulers, the military.

Egypt’s military leaders hardened their stance Tuesday, saying that they would not allow the disruption of public life or the “hijacking” of their authority as they called on Egyptians to disavow protests that disturb daily routines.

As I've said before, I think Lady Gaga needs to get busy and form a "Born This Way" SuperPac.   Imagine if every Gaga fan gave her PAC $10 a month for the next two years.  I wonder what her ads would be like?

Education Industry Complex

It's too bad children have to be part of education.  If they weren't then the adults could just collect salaries and go about their business.  Funny how hard it is to find an assessment of the cheating scandals effects on Atlanta's  school children.  The kids were short changed in so many ways in the past as they are now taught a lesson by the adults in the front of the room.  I fear the lesson is "don't get caught."

Michelle Bachmann is a loon.  She is also a loon quite partial to calling the cops.  As she opts to shrink the federal government will she use the saved tax revenues to expand state and local police?  Imagine her mind at play in the Oval Office!  I feel some trace memories of Tricky Dick bubbling up, anyone else?

What a deal it was

It was a big deal the GOP walked away from.  I have no doubts they walked as part of their concern, defeating Obama in 2012.  They prefer to see the nation tattered and defeated to going along with any debt deal that might allow Obama to win in 2012.  Obama gave away a lot, the GOP still walked.  Amazing.  When it all collapses into a depression worse than 1929, we can all thank the Republicans.  They should not have walked away again.

Wonkbook: Why liberals should thank Eric Cantor

Arm the Mexicans

As gun sales boom on Mexican border, the bad guys in Mexico become more and more like a deadly energizer bunny, they just keep on killing.  The ATF tried to help Mexico with something called "Fast and Furious."  Yep, they encouraged gun dealers to sell the bad guys more guns and not to worry about any regs that might get in the way.  ATF figured they would be able to track the weapons to the bad guys hideout and assist in their arrest.  Needless to say, with any program named "Fast and Furious" it became fucked up and failed.  Now, to fix the fix and address the original problem, ObamaCo wants to tamp down gun sales to Mexico.  Ooops, the Merchants of Death lobbying group, the NRA objects.  Any bets on how Congress will come down on this?  Let's see, dead Mexicans or NRA campaign cash?

Gun dealers will have to report multiple sales of semiautomatic rifle

Here's something to think about, the same people who are dealing with this mess, are also trying to fix the debt mess.   Feel a nightmare coming on?

Okay, the former non-ally, ally that has become a non-enemy, enemy has attacked our other ally in this manifestation of the WOT.  You got it, Pakistan is attacking Afghanistan.  Now that is some seriously fucked up commanderating isn't it!  After 10 years, we've managed to get Pakistan to fight the war on terror by attacking us.  Yep, strategic victory is just around the corner.  Did the Shrub really leave the White House?

Who is right?  Who is wrong?  I don't know about you, but at this point I think every damn elected pol and every appointed person in Washington needs to hear a song.  Mr. DJ would you play one for our pols, and make it that one by Cee Lo Green (the unexpurgated version).

Every year the Taliban's Spring Offensive appears about the same time as the U.S. Bullshit Offensive.  Yep, victory, strategic victory is just around the corner.  Funny, after 10 years we're still trying to get around the same damn corner.  Afghanistan was a cesspool, is a cesspool and always will be a cesspool.   Other than profits for MICC* affiliates and jobs for retired generals, why are still there?

Attention Non-Voters

It may be time to become voters, since voters now agree with you, all politicians in both parities, including the guy in the White House, really suck.  Hell they suck so bad they even blow chunks.   Americans agree, if it is elected, it prefers partisan advantage and its reelection over good policy that makes the nation safe and secure.  Voters and non-voters unite and vote 'em all out, all you have to lose is waist high and rising  bullshit.

THE HILL POLL: Neither party stands tall in voters' assessment

We like able bodied cannon fodder.  We don't like mangeled cannon fodder or even former cannon fodder.

The jobless rate for veterans who served at any time since September 2001 — called Gulf War-era II veterans — was 13.3% in June, up from 12.1% the month before, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In June 2010 it was 11.5%.

For all the patriotic flag waving backed chanting of USA, USA, Number 1, one would think that declared defenders of freedom whom pols say make us safe would not have any employment problems at all. Well, ask yourself, would you really hire a three tour vet with PTSD? See how easy it is prefer Johnnie marching off to war than it is when he's made the trip back home.  Even the DOD and the VA prefer able bodied...

GOOPFest 2012

Before the festival has even gotten under way, one of the twiddlebits may be biting the dust.  If Old T-Paw cannot move from 6th place to first, he may have to fold his bunting and go home.   The guy may be okay, but Iowa voters appear to prefer certified crazy people instead--they think they are closer to god.  Can you imagine what it must be like to wake up every morning knowing that folks prefer Bachmann over you.  Ouch!

Finally the Iraqis will Pay for our War in Iraq

Do you remember when Uncle Dork and Little Shrub assured us the Iraq war would be short and paid for by Iraqi oil?  The Iraqis were going to throw us chocolates and checks as we paraded victoriously throughout their land.  Well, instead we received our own shock and awe when the unborn taxpayer was sent a war bill for $2 trillion.

The unborn taxpayer may get a break.  Marriott is opening a hotel in Iraq.  All we have to do is add a war tax to every room charge and in a couple millennia we'll have paid off the war debt.  Oops, the unborn taxpayer won't defer birth that long.  Sorry about that, you will have to pay for the Little Shrub's folly.

We're also opening a consulate.

Someone voted for these schmucks

The nation may well find out what it means for the United States to finally become just one more banana republic.  All we have to do is default on our debts.  We are headed in that direction.  The Big Deal won't be accepted by the GOP--$4 trillion in spending cuts along with tax increases.  It seems to me with cuts that large the GOP's rejection over taxes is wrong.  The mess is both a spending and a revenue problem.  If the nation tanks, we know it will be the fault of Republicans who valued their own reelection more than their nation.  Cowards all.

The foundation for the current mess was two unfunded wars, two huge unfunded tax cuts (spending was not cut to match the cuts) and financial deregulation that gave us the 2008 collapse.  Remember it was aces in a Republican admin that did not think Lehman's failure would cause a problem.

If Congress and the White House cannot find a way out I have a suggestion.  Rescind the Bush tax cuts.  Then raise taxes a bit more to pay for the wars.  After the wars are paid for, we can cut those specific increases.   Then we can discuss entitlements and whose ox gets gored in spending cuts.

Who?  Oh, Speaker Boehner thats who.  Oh, well, when the U.S. defaults just remember the disaster will have been brought to us by the same trogs in the GOP who created the mess via financial deregulation, two unfunded continuing wars, and two unfunded tax cuts.  Bush will go down as a great president alright, as the greatest disaster the nation has ever known.

WHATS NEW Robert L Park Friday, 8 Jul 11 Washington, DC

1. FINAL VOYAGE: IT'S TIME TO RE-EXAMINE SPACE PRIORITIES.
In the beginning US space priorities were set by the Soviet Union. 0ur
only priority was to win. We won hands down, but the end of the Cold War
left us split. With the memory of tickertape parades in the Apollo program
still fresh, one side wanted to go Hollywood with the focus on heroic
astronauts. The other side thought NASA should be a science agency,
leading the way into a new age of scientific instrumentation. The game
ended in a tie. NASA was split right down the middle: manned and
unmanned. By any objective measure the manned program is an expensive
drag, but it was never meant to be judged objectively. The end of the
shuttle program gives us a tiny window of opportunity to rethink the space
option. The highest priority must be to protect Earth by: 1) identifying
all Earth-crossing asteroids and projecting their trajectories into the
distant future, and 2) locating the DSCOVR observatory at the L-1 point to
monitor solar activity and climate change on the whole Earth. This is the
most urgent responsibility imaginable – and only the US can do it.

2. CELL PHONES: EVIDENCE "INCREASINGLY AGAINST" CANCER RISK.
Saturday, a major review by a committee of experts from Britain, the United
States and Sweden concluded there is no convincing evidence connecting cell
phone use to cancer, and no established biological mechanism by which
microwaves might trigger cancer. Their conclusion is, of course, correct.
So why am I troubled? Some of you must recall the virulently anti-science
postmodern movement. About 15 years ago it was argued that there is no
such thing as objective truth: Science is a product of the power structure
it serves, and scientific "laws" would come out differently in a different
culture. It pictured scientists sitting around a table voting on the
truth. Does that seem uncomfortably close to where we are on cell
phone /cancer issue?

3. THE FINAL SEWER: WHERE DOES IT GO WHEN YOU FLUSH?
In a special issue a couple of months ago Nature reported that there have
been five mass extinctions over the past 540 million years in which the
number of species declined by over 75% in a geologically brief interval,
http://bobpark.physics.umd.edu/WN11/wn030411.html . If you're not already
depressed, keep reading; you will be. An expert panel of scientists,
convened by the International Program on the State of the Ocean (IPSO),
released its report a couple weeks ago. It warns that ocean life is at
high risk of entering a phase of extinction of marine species unprecedented
in human history. There is a growing conviction that life on Earth has
already entered mass-extinction six. Previous extinction episodes have
presumably been initiated by catastrophic natural events, such as increased
volcanism, changes in sea level, or asteroid impacts. Mass-extinction-six,
however, is decidedly unnatural, resulting entirely from the spread of
civilization.

Ads and people

Gee, if it is junk food advertising directed at kids, it's bad.  Okay what about the same ads for adults? Come on, it's not kiddie ads that have made us a fat nation.  People have shoved a lot of food into their mouths to make us number one in personal lard.   If you want svelte urchins then I suggest we target ads for adults instead.  Once the parent understands a bit about diet and nutrition, we won't need to control children's ads.  After all, the tot just acts like the tater it knows.

Can someone define strategic victory for me?

Cowards

Bachmann and Santorum signed the Family Leader "Marriage Vow" pledge that opened with a statement about slavery.  Their signature means they accepted it as written, they pledeged and committed themselves to what was written.  Now, just because some other folks challenge the accuracy of the damn thing does not allow them to change their mind and say "oops."  It was written, accepted and signed.  They have already shown the world what they really believe.  Backing off because  of adverse comments suggests they did not believe it in the first place which makes them liars.  Which are they, stupid bigots or stupid liars?  Either way we know their primary attribute.  Now what about their supporters?
