No matter, they remain gun nuts!

Gun Rhetoric vs. Gun Facts

Drones by Anonymous?

What if the merchants of death cannot secure their latest airborne devices?  Oh, my!  Imagine a hackfest of  drones.   What would happen if hackers took control of hellfire armed drones?  What will it be like when drones pervade world airspace and they are not quite as secure as the the vendors claim them to then be?

Back in the game!

They're a bit rusty at killing, but I'm sure they'll come up to speed druing 2013.  Who?  Oh, it's the those devout Catholic killers from Northern Ireland.  It will be good to see sectarian mayhem return to Ireland.  After all, Christians can't let Muslims get all the attention.

Question

Where did all those scientists, researchers, academics, and medical journals go when we finally figured out that tobacco companies had lying about selling death sticks?  Oh, that's easy.  They went from lying about tobacco to lying about drugs like OxyContin.  The amazing part is, is how little it takes to bribe these pillars of the community.

The Legacy Continues

Iraq is the Shrub's idea of a nation.  Damn, and we elected that moron twice.  I guess we just lack taste and judgement.  Iraq was destroyed, occupied and re-built per Dubya's book "Nation Buildings."   Of course he went back to Dallas and stiffed us and the Iraqis with the tab for our mistake.  Now that's a legacy.  I can hardly wait for Barry's.

We have what we want

The majority of people who matter, those who take the time to vote, want taxes to go up if it otherwise would mean "caving" to the other side on any issue.  Neither side will yield.  Why?  Well, it's simple.  Most House members are elected from safe Trog or Jackass districts.  They are safe if, if they behave in the way the voters in the safe districts want them to.  And the way the donors donate.  There are not many, if any, districts, where donors support or voters elect a Rep to be half Trog and half Jackass.  No one want a Trass or a Jackog.  Voters, based on their record, do not want moderation in anything.  So, hi-ho, hi-ho, its over the cliff we go.   Actually, we'll be better off in a couple years for going over the precipice.

If you hear someone complain, find out it they voted.  If they didn't then flip them off.  If they did, then congratulate them for helping make government all it is today.  Non-voters don't matter.  If they'd like to have voice, they need to vote.  Without new voters we will persist as have for a decade or so.  If the Trogs take the White House in 2016, they'd best expect the Dems to a better job at opposing Trogs than the Trogs have been at opposing them.  Yes we can put more grid in the lock.  Don't like it?  Well, then we have to vote a bit differently than we have been voting and who will do that?

Cliff Notes

I have come to the conclusion that going off the curb will be the best of all possible options.  My taxes will go up, yes, but so will everybody else's.  As far as the $110 billion in  cuts for this year, well, we'll have to eat a few more years of cuts  (not Social Security never was part of this).  So let's go off the cliff.  Oh, Congress's failure does affect 2012 taxes--if you make over about  $73,000 ( I think that's the number) you better check out the alternative minimum tax rules because you may be hit.

Let's go over the cliff and then do nothing until Nov. 2014.  Then we need to find brand new douchebags to elect--no Repubs, no Jackasses, no Teabaggers, no super Libs--just people who will serve one term and go back to a real job.  Do not donate a dime to any party or pol between now and election day 2014.  Then we get rid of the House and 1/3 of the Senate.  No more career pols.

Gun Culture

If you want to own a gun, fine.  But why huge magazines and military style guns?  They aren't for hunting and frankly they are much good at "protecting" you.  The obsession with guns is what makes for a gun nut.  Who the hell goes to a gun show anyway?  The counterpart obsession with gun elimination makes for gun control nut.  Who goes to gun control rallies?  I have a feeling that most of us  feel as though we're caught between two sets of nuts.

We'll just have to see what happens.  Remember we elected Congress.  Each member is behaving in a manner which he or she thinks will yield cash and votes for reelection and lead to party dominance.  If you are upset with Congress, how did you vote?  If you are only upset with the other party's members, then you wanted the current mess.  Do you think it's working well?

Will We See Bipartisanship in the 113th?

Nah, it will be business as usual.  Members from both parties will continue to do what gets them elected.  Our districts are more one party dominated than ever.  Pols know who votes and what makes them vote for them.  As long as the pols remain true to their voters and the voters remains steadfast to their ideology, then do nothing will be the new Congressional normal.  In other words, governance has ended.  If voters want a different type of politics and government, then they will have to elect it.  Until then, Congressmen and Congresswomen will be, as they always have been, absolute servants of those who elect them.

As Swing Districts Dwindle, Can a Divided House Stand?

Rest your fears

If you thought that the world's greatest debilitative body would change, fear not.  The U.S. Senate will remain a dysfunctional roadblock to governance of the our land.  Senators will be able to as debilitative as they are wont.  And you thought rule changes were going to make them do their job?  Come on this is the United States Senate.  The only real changes in the Senate have to come from voters.  If we'd quit electing total assholes over and over again, we might see a modicum of sanity prevail in Congress.  Voters, enjoy the 113th Congress, we elected it.  It's exactly what we want.

Today In The Gun Nuttery

I heard that a ship went down on the Chesapeake.  Some people did not have life vests.  They drowned.  Damn, I better haul keel to the next boat show and stock up on life vests.  At the boat show there's no water safety check.   I over heard that Obama hates sailing and is going to try and take away life vests.

Logic?  Maybe the AR-15 crowd could assemble in an open field in Manassas, Va. They need to line up in two opposing lines.  They need to be separated by 50 yards of open ground.   Good guys will form up to the North.  The bad guys will line up to the South.  All shooters have a sack full of 30 round or better magazines.  They will all open fire at the same time.  They will all exhaust their ammo.  The last person left standing will get a free lifetime membership to the NRA who will be the sponsors of  the event.  Note, medical assistance if the responsibility of each attendee and no one else.

That makes as much sense as the logic of gun show loons worried that they may not be protected.

Gun Culture

Needless to say, in gun culture, any problem is solvable with the application of more guns, even the heartbreak of psoriasis.  It's assumed if the new gun is carried by a good guy then he or she will automatically be able to out gun any old bad guy with a gun.  I love NRA logic, don't you.  Well, my portfolio loves the NRA.

Perhaps we should give some thought to the nature, skills and abilities of the good guys we put in our schools to defend the tots.

Have We?

Have audiences had enough of guns, violence and blood at the movies?

Nah, a movie is a movie.  It's not the fictive gore that gun culture naysayers should be looking at.  Movies are like guns, as guns don't kill people, neither do movies.  The latest hot flick about Seals and bin Laden is gory, so I've heard.  It will be quite popular, make a lot of money, and in a few years be one more forgotten war film.  How many of Vietnam, Korea, or WWII  movies do folks return to again and again?  About the only war film I watch every couple of years is "All Quiet on the Western Front." I'm not sure what folks are trying to say about our culture.  It is too violent?  If so, in what ways and how do we measure and compare?  The violence and the guns really are two separate issues.  Don't conflate them.

Cliff Notes

If we go "over" the cliff isn't that sufficient evidence that those of us who consistently vote have really fucked up for a whole lot years?  After all, our behavior supports, encourages, and abets the way our two parties and all of our elected folks behave.  If we did not vote the way we have, then it would be different in Washington.  It's time to rid ourselves of the two parties.  If we don't want assholes in D.C. then we have to quit being such outstanding role models.

What lurked behind the housing bubble that wrecked our economy?  Just greed?  Sleaze ball bankers?  Hmm, if so, then the housing bubble should have been everywhere and have done uniform damage coast to coast.  Hold it, there are areas, like Texas, that did not experience the disaster the way Florida did.  Why?  Well, how about "land use restrictions?"

If swords replaced guns...

Then we'd have sword culture.  We'd still be in 2nd amendment compliance, after all, swords are arms. Now if a few weeks back, all guns had magically been transformed into swords, how many kids do you think Adam Lanza could have stabbed, sliced and hacked to death?  I doubt he'd have killed the same number of tots.  Gee, would twitter be able to report this number of subsequent "sword" deaths?  I have my doubts.

COUNTING ALL U.S. GUN DEATHS SINCE SANDY HOOK VIA TWITTER

There comes a point when we do have to consider that we have an excessive number of guns in this naition and perhaps to entertain the idea that gun culture is in essence deviant culture.

Gun Culture

Remember gun culture is about hyping sales. The dealers sell them. The dealers sell ammo. Even owners can be dealers. After all, bad guys have to get guns. What better way than from a good guy?

I guess we need fireman guards too

Okay gun nuts, how about this one.  It's time to get the guns off the streets, period.

4 firefighters shot, 2 dead, after responding to blaze

Bluntly, fuck the NRA and its members and every damn pol who has accepted a dime from them.

No Grandfather on Nuts

The first step to stop mass killing by guns is to make sure everybody who currently owns a gun or has access to guns is mentally fit to own and operate guns.  This includes all the folks who try to purchase any kind of a firearm from dealers or at gun shows.  If people are found to be be nuts then they have to give up their guns.  We need to certify that gun owners and their household members are sane.  No certificate of sanity then no sale or possession.

Let's start national testing next year.

Think about it.  Adam Lanza would not have passed a nut test.  Assume that his mother would.  She would then have had a choice.  She could have owned and had guns in the house or she could have kept her son in the house, but she could not had both and conform to the proposed gun sanity standards I've sketched out above.

Oh, don't forget this mental health test applies to all members of the armed forces, police, guards, federal and state agents, etc.  If they are nuts, then should never be allowed access to guns at all.  I wonder how many members of Congress would pass such test?

Funny How the NRA works

I swear that every time the NRA makes a suggestion, their suggestion leads to more people being armed and leads to large increases in the sales of guns and ammo.  Yep, armed guards in every school, I assume private schools may or may not become armed.

The school guards will have to be tested for sanity at least twice a year, after all they will be standing watch over our imperiled urchin spawn.  Gee, the Psychology lobby will be all for this program.   Since guards will have to best the beasts hell bent on killing our tots,  guards will have to go to the shooting range at least once a week.  Hmm, if they fire a couple hundred rounds that will suffice.  They will also have to formally qualify on the range at least four times a year--accuracy and speed.

Oh, I almost forgot, they will have to be very physically fit in order to quickly move from one point in a school to the next and then endure a shootout at the education corral.  Yeah, and it might be a good idea to make sure that the new guards have some experience in killing people--we don't want them to choke.   Gee, beating the bad guy to the draw and then not being able to waste the bad guy leads to dead guards and tots.  Hmm, maybe we'll need to have a guard guard for every new school guard.

1. GUN RIGHTS: NOTHING IS CERTAIN EXCEPT DEATH AND TEXAS. Texas Gov. Rick Perry told a meeting of the Tea Party that you should be able to carry your handgun anywhere in Texas. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said he wishes the school principal at Newtown had kept an M4 in her office. At the sound of gunfire she could have grabbed the carbine and blown Adam Lanza’s head off. Unless, of course, Adam, who she didn't know, was faster, or a better marksman, or had a bigger gun. I grew up on a farm in South Texas, belonged to the National Rifle Association, hunted deer and game birds. An Eagle Scout, I taught marksmanship on the rifle range of a Boy Scout camp one summer. But a few years later when I came home on leave during the Korean War my father told me he had arranged for us to go deer hunting. He was hurt when I said I don't hunt anymore. And I don't go back to Texas anymore

2.CHILDREN: THEY STILL INSIST ON LEARNING FROM THEIR PARENTS. Adam Lanza slaughtered 20 schoolchildren and seven adults. His first human target was his mother, who regularly took Adam to a shooting range. According to one account, she was a gun-hoarding survivalist who stockpiled weapons in preparation for an economic collapse. Which brings us to the fiscal problem.

3. THE FISCAL CLIFF: THE ELECTION FAILED TO SETTLE THE CLASS WAR. It used to be called the Graduated Income Tax. It was based on the simple concept that those who benefit the most from our system should pay a larger share of its costs. Alas, it's not easy being rich. Expectations grow faster than the economy. Like the lottery, the Republican tax plan depends on the support of wannabes that don't understand mathematics.

4. NEXT WEEK: IF WE HAVE TIME. We'll try to get back to the global warming/population problem.

Think It Will Work?

Obama calls on public to lobby Congress on gun restrictions

I doubt it will have anything more than cosmetic changes.  The only way we can change Congress and the law is by electing a whole new set of assholes.  Most of us don't even bother to vote in a general election, so how on earth can we change who is the nominee and who gets elected.  What vote in a primary?  See, we'll get the same old shit over and over again.  It's not the money, it's the votes and incumbents and parties can count on 50%+ of us not voting in general elections and 80%+ in primaries.

Practicing Being An NRAer

How can we prevent more Sandy Hooks?  That's easy.  Put armed guards in every school.  Arm every teacher in America.  Arm all the administrators too (they will need to be able to defend themselves from the teachers.  Oh, almost forget, every kid gets a new government issued pistol every year on the first day of school.  Parents are responsible for the ammo.  I can't wait to see future high school pep rallies.

Suggestion for the end of the world

To all the folks who are sure the end is coming because the Mayans said so.  Get a jump on the end.  Find a tall building, a high cliff, or anything you can jump off of and end it early.  Make it a family affair.  Mom, Dad and all the kids can go splat, splat, splat.

De nutifying the assholes

Oh, I mean preventing the current crazies from buying any new assault rifles, large capacity magazines, or being able to buy any gun without a background check.  It's the nuts who are the problem.  So how does government  de-nutify those psychos?  First, government needs to acknowledge that they are nuts. Then it can shut down whole segment of guns, magazines and ammo sales in the name of mental health policy.  The nuts can all hide in their closets and pout.  They are nuts.  They own guns.  Then again we could just castrate them all and hope we've caught them early enough so they don't breed.

Obama launches gun violence task force

I really don't expect much to come of the Veeps foray.  I bet in a few weeks no one will give a shit about gun violence, the NRA will be back financing pols and we'll keep on having killing after killing. I think about the only gun slaughter that might make us all puke our way to change--even the guns crazies--would be a mass shooting in a large urban, up scale, hospital maternity ward.  You know 100 plus babies shot to death, 50 moms killed, and throw in a couple docs and nurses too.  All would have to be mowed down with an assault rifle.  Even then I doubt if the gun nuts would hesitate over their next large ammo clip purchase.

GM management strikes again

GM is a company that should have gone out of business long ago.  Even after the feds saved its corporate ass, forced GM to restructure parts of its business GM cannot compete.  Look when we took over 60% of the damn company we got 912 million shares for about $50 billion.  That works out to over $50 a share.  An initial IPO of the new GM brought in about $33 a share-we lost money.  It's been downhill ever since.

Now GM--in order to be out from under government control will buy back shares at $28 a share--we lose money again.  That means Obama is directing the taxpayer to take it in the fiscal ass.  Well, it's probably more likely to be felt by the unborn taxpayer, so who gives a shit, right.  Oh, if you're a Dem and this was Bush and the GOP in place of Obama would you be a bit pissed?  Are you pissed today?  Why not?

The feds should not sell.  The feds should fire 90% of GM management.  The same clowns who took it to bankruptcy are still managing the company.  Then again, I wonder what would happen if we decided to be rid of GM and dumped all of the stock at once?  Maybe we could force a Ch. 7 sale.

Future Food That Kills

I have a feeling that pretty soon if we want to stay healthy, we'll all have to avoid eating anything  that has a face.  Food safety does not matter to companies who manufacture the food.   Congress and the Executive Branch determine law and enforcement based upon donations to parties and candidates, not little things like sanitation.  The Chicken Industry Complex has bought their piece of government.  If the new rules are accepted and implemented, I'd suggest we all say bye-bye to chicken.

It's easy to protest and castigate the NRA, but will their opponents follow through on any future election day?  I doubt it.  Guns and such don't seem to matter in our elections, thus the NRA keeps its image of power.  If protesters backed up their noise with votes focused on guns, the NRA would wither  away.   If you don't like the NRA, then make  sure you actively oppose any pol who accepts the NRA's endorsement or brags on the second amendment.  I question the sanity of anyone who "loves" hunting.  This will pass and the NRA will keep on hyping guns to increase sales of guns and ammo.

Seven of the Most Striking Ways States Have Loosened Gun Laws

Who Is To Blame For Newtown?

We know the name of the perp.  However, we have not said who is to blame.  For starters I suggest  that every current member of the NRA owns a piece of those deaths.  Every politician (and every voter who elected them) who panned gun control and supported the sales of assault rifles and high capacity magazines owns a piece of the deaths.  Those folks went beyond mere constitutional ownership of a gun, they covertly and sometimes overtly advocated violence.  And it was all because they were afraid of their government?  That's a tad demented.   We are super armed.  Twenty kids are dead.  Go gun owners, our nation and it's  people are as you want us to be--afraid and armed.  Have any ideas about why the Nanny state keeps on growing?  Look in the mirror, its not guns, it's the sick fuckers who persist in buying more and more guns.

If Gomert is your Rep, what does that say about you?

As usual Louie is, to be blunt, full of shit.  So, I guess that describes the majority of voters in his District.  Aw, hell, it's Texas.  They are all full of shit, batshit to be precise.

Do concealed-weapon laws result in less crime?

It's Time To Bag This Thing

What? Oh, the Electoral College, that's what. They're voting today. Gee, I wonder who will be our next Prez? It's time to rid ourselves of this piece of junk. Electors cast presidential votes

That makes as much sense as positing that a god took a week off and created the world. Six days of work and then he created the vacation? Either way, given the state of the world, I can't keep the phrase, "sick fucks" out of my mind. What if reality were really just 'Sim Universe'?

Drones, The Obama Legacy

Obama has unleashed drones around the world, that's part one of his legacy.  The second part is he's making sure as we've done to others we'll do unto ourselves.

Gun Control

Gun nuts do not make much sense to me, but then I imagine I do not make much sense to them.  When I was a child, I enjoyed target shooting.  However, that was more a function of the novelty, seeming adultness of the act, and that significant adults wanted me to learn to shoot.  After a while, it all seemed a bit childish and moronic.  I left the target range until I had to qualify during Basic Training.

I never developed the blood lust of hunting.  I find grocery stores convenient.  It's not that hard to kill what you are going to eat, I have.  Making a sport out of it is sick.  I cannot accept killing something just because it's tasty, that's deranged.  I have no problems with sustenance hunters, they have to hunt to eat.   I have to confess, I find fishing to be overwhelmingly mind-numbingly boring, fish markets are also a wonderful invention.   I accept I am in the minority with respect to hunting and fishing.

I have no problems with hunters and guns.  Hell,  I have no problems with fishermen who pack.  A large muskie can be intimidating when you land one in your boat, it gets loose and decides to eat your foot.  A small hole in the boat beats a lost boot and its contents.  These sports can arm and go forth, but I do wonder why any hunter needs a Bushmaster or a pistol with a large capacity magazine.   I'm not sure why hunters need pistols, but then I don't hunt, perhaps it's marauding packs of rogue attack yams.

So what about all the other guns?  What can we do?  I have a different approach.  Well, how about rescinding all gun laws?  Yep, take them all off the books of the feds, the states and localities.  If you want to hide a gun in your butt,  there's no reason you should have to seek permission much less pay for the privilege to any governmental jurisdiction.

If you want a machine gun, that's fine.  If you want a Bushmaster, great.  If you want an autofed Glock go for it.  Automatic?  Sure, any thing goes.  In return I do have two little requests.  As we allow arms to flourish, I want us to make the commission of any crime-misdemeanor or felony a capitol offense.  Yep, if you knock over a 7-11 with a gun, then we'll chop off your head.  Ah, there's the other request, all gun crime executions must be done via guillotine.   Better hope you don't pack when you jay walk,  if you do we'll have to take your head.

What is wrong with people?

I'm 66 years old.  I've lived in a variety of places, some nice and some less so.  I've never felt the need to have a pistol to protect myself.  Of the folks I've known who told me they felt they needed "protection," well, for the most part I felt everyone else needed to be protected from them.  It really is not the guns, it's the gun owner who is the problem.   I'm biased sure, my experience says gun owners have eaten a bit too much batshit.  Set aside the hunting crap, other than that who needs 200,000,000 guns to protect themselves anyway?  What are people protecting?

Oh, I must confess, I have a 16 ga. shotgun, but no ammo.  It was a gift from my grandfather long ago.  My wife has a small calibre pistol somewhere, but again no ammo.  If the burglar broke in and we we needed protection, our guns would not provide it.  I'm not even sure what closet they live in.  However, I do have a couple of swords, but I never saw them as for protection, they are decorative.  I guess I could pierce the burglar.   Hmm, I heard dragons may be returning to this realm, should I get a crossbow or a bazooka?

In self defense will we all have to wind up publicly packing pieces?  Maybe, maybe--HIGH COURT FIGHT LOOMS OVER RIGHT TO CARRY A GUN

Conn. Shooting

I've been thinking about the shooting at the Newtown elementary school.  I've read and heard pundits begin to talk up gun control.  I've seen that the gun nuts have told us their usual tripe--now's not the time for talk and besides guns don't kill.

If people want gun control then they will have gun control.  This issue as with most, comes down to electing people who reflect one's thinking.  If gun nuts types are elected, then that merely means that the majority who bother to vote don't really give a shit about guns or actually support all the gun sales bullshit the NRA spews in the name of the second amendment.

Half of us don't vote--it's far worse in state and local elections.  Of the half that do vote, all it takes is a simple majority to win.  So, if any of us actually give a shit about gun control, then we'll quit yammering today and begin to work on the next round of elections in our states.  If people nominate and elect folks who commit themselves to working for gun control, then the gun lobby will dissipate back to what it was before--an org concerned with gun and hunting safety.

Want to control mayhem?  Then get concerned before the general election, the game is in the primaries for your state and locality.  This applies to about everything we like or don't like.   I contend we have exactly the world the voting majority wants.  Are you part of the voting majority?

Gee, It's The Bent Pyramid All Over Again

Egyptians did get the pyramid down after really screwing up.   Now the question is, will the get the politics of democracy, freedom and liberty right.  I think they will keep on rebuilding the bent pyramid  in politics.  Until Islam is put in the Mosque and the military stays on base, Egyptians will experience Mubarak 2.0.  2.0 is a military backed, Islamic dictatorship built on a constitution of convenience.  This time the Islamists will get even.

Once Again Delta Proves It Sucks

I pretty much had to fly Delta to get where I needed to go.  If another airline had been available, I'd have used it.  Delta has gone downhill every year for years.  I began flying Delta after they bought Western.  I don't understand how they do it.  After awhile you'd think they'd bottom out and just stay uniformly lousy.  Not Delta, they work at being an airline that really sucks more today than it did yesterday.  They showed us again--

Trogs Love Torture

They just don't like to talk about how much they personally enjoy having others inflict pain for them.  Oh, here's the lead--

After a contentious closed-door vote, the Senate intelligence committee approved a long-awaited report Thursday concluding that harsh interrogation measures used by the CIA did not produce significant intelligence breakthroughs, officials said.

The 6,000-page document, which was not released to the public, was adopted by Democrats over the objections of most of the committee’s Republicans. The outcome reflects the level of partisan friction that continues to surround the CIA’s use of waterboarding and other severe interrogation techniques four years after they were banned.

Voter ID Laws

Did the voter ID mess seem as though Trogs were attempting to have a renascence of Jim Crow from coast to coast.  It did to me.  The South has not learned anything, except that they lost the war.  There are two checks on grit and cracker mentality in voting.  First is the Voting Rights Act, however the Supremes will probably gut it this term-Scalia, Thomas,Alito, Roberts and Kennedy are pure legal rednecks.  The other check is more work, it's votes.

State legislatures set the local laws.  If the local laws are variations on Jim Crow and suppression of non-white votes, then  that means the majority of people who bothered to vote, voted for those yahoos and their laws.  If folks don't want Jim Crow, then they have to become much more concerned with state and local elections.  If you do not want voter ID then vote it out by electing decent people to state legislatures.  People pretty much have the government they want--we elect it.

We Cannot Cut Federal Spending

Why?  Well, basically we're all on the payroll.  Beyond the obvious, such as Social Security and Medicare, think about all the jobs that depend on federal tax revenue.  What proportion of us work for the fed?  I'm guessing it's between 40% and 50%--and that's not including old farts who are retired.  How can we cut anything?

Sometimes It's Okay to Trash The U.N.

The U.N. is pretty much comprised of shitholes where no one wants to live.  When the people who run shitholes feel threatened they try to dignify their autocratic ways with treaties and sneak in a bit of language that will allow them to perpetuate their dictatorships.  When the U.N. goes a bit overboard, it's then okay to bash the crap out of the organization.  Now is one such occasion---

U.S. refuses to back U.N. treaty, saying it endorses restricting the Internet

Uh, oh.  If Obama is agin' it, the the Trogs will have to be fer it.  The GOP will back U.N. censorship and autocratic rule.  Oh, there's nothing new there now is there?  In the heart of every true conservative beats an appreciation of the way Russia, China, Iran, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Belarus and Cuba run their countries.

Fiscal Cliff Deals -- Tax Code

I don't understand pols.  Rewrite the tax code, yes, but do it completely.  Eliminate all deductions, exemptions, and tax expenditures.  Income or income in kind is all taxed.   The currently non-taxed becomes taxable--think health insurance.  Then apply a rate that begins at 1% of $1 and rises uniformly  from 1% to 30% as we go from $1 to $1,000,000.  30% is the top.  This will generate lots of revenue and piss everyone off so it's probably a pretty good plan.  The IRS becomes dedicated to one task--collection of taxes, that's all.    Charity should not be part of the tax code, nothing should be part of the tax code expect collection taxes.  Yeah that means non-profits are toast too.

White House, nonprofit groups battle over charitable deductions

Routers and WiFi

Yesterday I lost my Wireless network.   My WISP indicated it was my router at fault.  If I bypassed the router and connected directly to the incoming line, my PC was on the net.  I tried rebooting stuff.  No luck.  Then I needed to print something.  The PC I had directly connected does wireless printing via the router.  I turned the printer on. the little blue antenna light lit up and I printed.  At that point I began to think it's not the router but a WISP screwup.  I put the router back the way it was before I had problems, watched the tube, and went to bed.  This morning, I confirmed it's not the router--everything worked the way it was supposed to.  I guess the problem "fixed" itself overnight.  At that point I remembered the same kind of thing occurring a year or two ago.  I called my WISP and talked to a Tech.  He said he'd look into it.  I just hope he does and fixes whatever it was that knocked me out.

Checks and Balances

Our federal government is a marvel.  "The Constitution" insures our continuity with a minimal amount of tyrannical behavior by those we elect.   All of the checks and balances deter government excess.  Of course they also deter doing anything with haste.  Our founders had lived and had learned history.  They knew how governments screw up and how they wind up doing damage to its citizens.  They built in roadblocks which, to the extent it can be done, insure we live in a democratic land of freedom and liberty.

I wish we had an equivalent for human behavior.  We don't have checks and balances on people who run for office or the parties that support their efforts.  The structure of our government prevents them from doing too much damage, but their personal excesses prevent anything at all.  Imagine what it would be like it if people ran for office, got elected, did their job and did not run for reelection.  Instead they left Washington and went back to their real job.  And they did so because they more or less had to due to human checks and balances.  How do we make it happen?

Michigan and Unions

I support unions.  I have no problem with closed shops.  I don't like right to work laws.  That all said, I have no sympathy with the folks in Michigan.  The voters, that percentage of eligible voters who bother to turnout and vote, spoke.  They elected a GOP dominated House and Senate.  They elected a Trog for Gov.  If the unionists and Dems don't like it, then they need to win local elections.  I have a feeling that several union folks voted for Trogs.  No one should be surprized at the what has occurred.  As everywhere else, the people of Michigan enjoy life exactly as they want it.  Votes matter and the party you vote into power matters too.  Trogs will never be pro-union.  So Michiganders,  how did you vote in the past two or three local elections?  Oh, and all you protesters, did you actually vote? Somebody, didn't, who?

Health Note

Despite Big Beefs Attempt to Fight Back Using Money and Science you will be healthier if you pretty much avoid eating anything that has a face.  If you must eat meat, try reversing the one day a week meat free routine and only have meat on one day a week.  Your bod will thank you, you'll save money and might have to take fewer pills.

At times I think the folks at Big Beef have cousins over at Big Tobacco.

Food Poisoning Tests For the Manufacturers of Food That Kills

Yep the victim of sloppy, greed driven, food manufacturers and vendors will be able to quickly and simply tell if they have a food that kills infection.  Why do the sources of their contamination like this?  Well, the test eliminates any way of tracking the contamination back to the source.  Yeah, no "fingerprints."  I wonder who funded this gem?

Arab Muck

Religious sectarians continue to move Egypt towards an Iranian style state.  Hell, why should they stop there?  The zealots could institute a Taliban style regime instead.  Yeah, their first public works project could be to raze all of those heathen pyramids.  Don't you just love religion!

Novel Idea

Gee, the filibuster is unconstitutional.  That actually sounds right.  The check on majority rule screwups is the courts, not the Congress.  Congress passes whatever passes by majority.  The minority rights and protections reside in the Courts who negate bad law.  So, let's rid ourselves of the filibuster.

Pot. Kettle. Black?

Uh, oh.  One group tagged the other group with being sloppy.  The alleged sloppees have retaliated and charged the sloppers with sloppiness too.  It's a mess.  Gee, both groups are both sloppers and sloppees.  Welcome to the sloppy slope of nonscience.  Is social psych is really a science?

Voting Rights and the Supreme Trogs

Don't forget Roberts and the Robes will, in addition to gay marriage, be warbling about the Voting Rights Act.  The members of the Court who are wholly owned by the GOP, Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts, will do their best to con Kennedy into agreeing with them.

The South they contend, that's the area mostly covered by Section 5, has learned its lesson and would not ever try to muck with the voting rights of minorities.  Yeah, they've learned in the same way business has learned about child labor--take away the law and kids would be back in sweatshops before the ink dried the repeal bill.

It's going to take a lot longer for the grits and crackers to change--try 100 years.   Fundamental hate is passed on within the family.  It takes time to fade from generation to generation.  Hell, a lot of them, not as many as did 50 years ago,  are still fighting the Civil War.

Torture

We'll never, in my lifetime (I'm 66), know all the whos, in our government, which tortured whom, when, how, why, at whose request, and with what real effect.  Hell, no one really admits that government employees and contractors, in effect, ran torture chambers.

Obama didn't even try to have Congress make torture illegal--he banned it by executive order and that is not the same at all.  With one little retraction, any future Prez can take over where Cheney left off.  We play language games to hide what we do.  Intense interrogations still occur, check out Bagram Air Base prison.

I have little respect for almost all elected and appointed officials.  Senior career officials, well, they're looking to become appointees, so trust and respect are minimal there too.   I cannot trust the White House, CIA or military with respect to any claims that any agent of the United States or affiliated foreign associates do not torture for us.  We just don't call it torture, we still engage in practices that used to be considered torture.  So much for law, freedom and liberty.  I'm glad I'm 66 and not 16.

Whatever Happened to All the Protesters?

Back when the Shrub ruled from the Rose Garden, people were in the streets protesting everything that plant did in the name of the United States.  He warred.  He tortured.  He bankrupted us.  We heard eight years of howls.  Then Obama took over.  Nothing changed.   Barry tended the garden in the same way as his predecessor.  There were no howls.  Hell, even with a kill list there's no one in the streets.  Either he's getting a pass or all those protesters were Democratic plants.  Where's the noise about Obama's killing spree?

Let's Hear It For ObamaCare!

The insurance based health care revamp is supposed to stem the increasing cost of health care.  I guess an extra $63 a year added to insurance premiums must actually be a decrease in costs somewhere.  Yeah, that's Washington logic.

Women and Girls

As we towards Obama's second term, I hope all females will think about the GOP and the campaign it ran to try and unseat Obama.  Then after thinking, become card carrying ACLU members and join the Democratic Party.  The GOP wants to take our country back, back to 1850.  Ladies, do y'all really want the GOP in charge ever again?  Hmm, I can see the GOP behaving akin to the Taliban.  I can be extreme.  Here's the piece that got me thinking about women, rights and the GOP.

Arab Broken

Spring, Sprang, Sproing, Sprung and broke.  Egypt is heading back to its good old days (way, way back to almost two years ago).   Will the generals appoint Morsi as the new Mubarak?  Will the military tolerate the Brotherhood?  Of course there is room for an Iranian twist on Egyptian autocracy.  One thing it will not be is what all those kids who gathered in Tahrir Square a couple years ago thought it would be.  There is no way Islamic Arabs can create much less sustain a democratic government of liberty and freedom for all.

Illegal Immigration

Illegals are about 100% Mexican who cross the border into the U.S., right?  Well, not quite.  As Mexican immigration declines, Central Americans are filling the gap.  Now we have two borders to deal with?  Yeah, we're shutting down Mexico's northern border (more theory than reality) and now Mexico's southern border has become a major source of illegals who come in, transit Mexico and cross its northern border into the U.S.  Hmm, will Trogs demand that we build a fence in Mexico?  It's a new mess.

Utah has two idiots in the Senate

One, Orrin the Pious has been there so long, he's become a fixture in the Senate, I think he's become a spittoon.  The other is Utah's freshman Solon, Mike Lee.  He's already every bit the equal of Orrin and he's done it in one term.  Wow.  He might become an inkpot next year.
