Calling the Crazy Lady

Someone better tell Michelle and Newt that Muslims, some of them have brothers, have invaded the executive branch.  They've even been invited in!  Damn, Muslim brothers in the DC hood, it's gotta be an evil conspiracy to establish some kind of Islamic thing or takeover.  Oh, hold it, it's just Obama pandering for the Muslim vote, cancel that call to Bachmann and Gingrich.

What are we doing

Now the Afghans are killing their own.  I don't know why, but the word "Quisling" comes to mind.  We know they've had it with us, the occupiers.  Now they've had it with the locals who collaborate with us.   Yep, Quislings are being killed.  It's long past time when the land of free and home of brave folks should have come back home.

Fareed is a plagiarist.  He's been caught.  Time has dropped him.  CNN has too.  Unfortunately, it's not permanent.  I enjoyed his TV program but will no longer watch it if he returns.  He cannot be trusted.   He is a liar.  The media companies will suspend him, see the effect on revenue  and bring him back.  When he comes back they'll watch revenues then to determine if he stays or goes.

Fareed Zakaria suspended for plagiarism by Time, CNN

The damnedest thing is all he had to do was intro the paragraph with a ref to the Jill Lepore-- "As Jill Lepore has shown us..."

Still A Catholic?

The boys are pissed with the girls.  The girls try to live the gospel every day.  The boys play with other boys and lie about their actions.  However the boys are in charge and are tired of being shown in a bad light when compared to the deeds of the girls.  The boys want the girls to go lock themselves up in nunneries and do what the boys tell them to.  Hm, will some of them switch from boys to girls?  That about sums it up.

The nuns should just bail from Rome and persist in their own orders.  The church, prelates and pope do not matter, living the gospel is everything if you are a Christian.  If you don't, then you cannot be one.  It's simple but damned hard.  The Nuns try very hard and seem to succeed whereas the guys....

We'll have to wait an see, but Paul Ryan is an ideologue in the same way that Palin was an unprepared dolt in heels.  Both have fans, but they have fewer fans than the guy on the top of the ticket.   Note the guy on top is a loser.

As with McAncient, did you feel uncomfortable when you imagined President Palin?  Okay, how does President Ryan sound? Not good.  I guess Willard has become as desperate and McNasty had become.   Trogs are just damned strange.

They're not even degree mills anymore,

No sir, they've become profit centers.  Of course the cash for all those profits comes from the U.S. taxpayer.  Without federal loans and grants the for-profit higher education industry would go belly up.  Not because they could not actually provide an education, but because the con artists who run them would all leave and find another scam to make money via legal theft.  Why work when you can "steal"  federal money?

Take a look at the numbers--The For-Profit Higher Education Industry, By the Numbers

We screw ourselves

We, as a people, seem to admire stupidity.  We follow fantasies but rarely like science.  Hm, how can a democracy based on the consent of the governed work, if the people are mostly volunteer dumb shits who do as they are bid their well educated masters?  For example--

As it is, in the absence of a national dialogue, Americans are appallingly uninformed about how much energy they use and where it comes from. According to a 2009 report from Public Agenda, nearly four in 10 Americans cannot even name a fossil fuel, and more than half cannot correctly identify a renewable energy source. Without a basic working knowledge of energy supply and demand, it's difficult to see how local residents can ever make informed decisions about gas wells, nuclear waste dumps, or any other energy facilities that have potentially serious impacts. Consent is meaningless unless it's informed consent -- based upon a clear understanding of the facts, implications, and consequences of a decision.

A week of important fact-checks

This is shaping up to be a campaign when fact-checking really matters.

This week, both sides put out claims that were wildly exaggerated or false. Fact-checks by PolitiFact and our colleagues knocked down those claims, which led to more charges and counter-charges.

Welcome to Campaign 2012! It's going to be like this for the next two and half months!

The fact-checks that mattered this week:

Harry Reid said Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. But Reid couldn't provide any proof (other than an anonymous source) and tax experts told us it was highly unlikely Romney went a decade without paying a penny. We found no evidence to support Reid and gave him a Pants on Fire.

A Romney ad said Obama has gutted welfare's work requirements. We found Romney was wrongly interpreting an Obama administration memo and rated it Pants on Fire.

An ad from a pro-Obama super PAC claimed Romney and Bain are to blame for a woman's death from cancer. We checked the facts, found virtually nothing to support that andrated it False.

We've got lots more new fact-checks and updates to our Obameter and GOP Pledge-O-Meter, and make sure you check our home page because we're posting new fact-checks every day. And keep an eye out for our new app for iPhone, iPad and Android, which should be released in the next two weeks. It will be free and designed to help you settle dinner-table arguments. I'll give you a heads-up when it's available.

Hawking the Merch -- Basketball Spiel is Over?

Barack is worried.   I have not yet donated to the Obama Classic.  He thinks he has a hold card.  It's some guy named Michael Jordan.  I assume he played basketball.  It's kind of pathetic.  He's made the late entries into twofers.  I guess that's his version of a blue light special.  Here's the latest pitch from the First Raffler--

Jake --

When Michael Jordan wrote a check to my campaign for U.S. Senate in 2004, I wasn't sure whether I should cash it or frame it.

Now Michael Jordan is taking his support to the next level. If you chip in $45 or whatever you can today, you'll be automatically entered for a chance to meet both of us at an event later this month in New York City.

You're invited to bring a guest -- so if basketball isn't your game, I encourage you to bring someone in your life who might enjoy meeting Michael and me over dinner, and maybe even shooting some hoops with some of the other basketball stars, past and present.

Now, I don't know if I'll want to sprint up and down the court that night, but I'm always up to launch a few jump shots. If you join me, don't be surprised if I challenge you or your guest to play.

Tonight is the deadline to throw your name in -- and, today only, every entry counts for two. Make a donation, and you'll be automatically entered:

Okay, here 'tis, it's floating rocks!

Yep, about a Belgiums worth off the coast of Kiwiland.

Floating Rocks!

Fickle Faithiness

I know their are lapsed Catholics.  They are the ones who chewed the wafer and found it wanting.  Then there are Jack Mormons.  Let me put it this way, they don't have a Temple recommend and Fruit of the Looms are just dandy.  I'm not sure about Protestants, I think they just change from one flavor to the next.  Jews eat bacon and call themselves reformed.  Now what's the term for Muslims who think  five pillars is a bit excessive?

Hard to believe

Not that the hair braider won the suit, but that the morons in Utah required a cosmetology license for hair braiders in the first place.  I wonder who was protecting what interest group for how much in donations?

We're definitely not Zorro!

Do you remember Zorro on TV?  Zorro came to the defense of indigenous peasants brutalized by the occupation troops of Spain.  While he was a Spanish grandee, he saw his people as the source of others pain and suffering.

That's a bit of a gloss, but we're not exactly playing the role of Zorro in Afghanistan.  Who are we?We're not Pashtuns or any other Afghan tribal group.  I guess all that's left is the brutal Spanish troops.  Gee, we have our own Commandante in Chief, Captain Barakique Sanchez Obamasterio. Hey, didn't you just love Dave Petraeus as Sergeant  Garcia -- he was a gas. Who's playing that role now?  It's might be better if the Afghans had swords, we'd be covered with "Zs" instead of dead.

Hawking the Merch -- More Basketball

Oh, god, now one of the proffered trinkets is making the the pitch for raffler in chief. I wonder when Obama will raffle off his kids? Hmm, is he missing out on the dog owner donor block? He could raffle off a day on the lawn with Bo!

Jake --

I'm honored to be joining President Obama and some of the best basketball players ever for a special event in a couple of weeks. Some of us might even get out on the court with the President for a bit.

It's called the Obama Classic, and you don't want to miss it.

If you chip in $45 or whatever you can today, you and a guest will be automatically entered to join us:

Hope to see you there,

P.S. -- If basketball's not your game, don't worry. You'll get two tickets, so think about who's coming with you.

P.S.S from Jake, don't forget if you win, then you will pay taxes on the market value of all that hoop and hang time with Prez what's his name.  It's a classic.

Still Trust Anyone In Finance and Banking?

If you help wreck the financial system, need the taxpayers to bail you out, and want to avoid going to jail, what can you do?  Oh, that's easy, just make sure you work for Goldman Sachs.  They invested a bit of change in Obama.  He won.  He runs DOJ.  He will protect you.  Ooops, he has.

Justice Dept. says it won’t prosecute Goldman Sachs or its employees in financial fraud probe

Better Know A Muslim

How much do you know about Islam and the world today?  Pew has a slug of info available.  Give it a read.  Funny Jihad and terrorism are not biggies.  Is it really the major dynamic of a normal Islamic community?  Damn, I have to ask, can any religious community really be called normal?  The major problem I have with Islam is, just as with every other religion, it still exists.  When will we live our lives based on facts and leave childhood fantasies behind?  That will probably never happen, so  learn a bit about a major world religion, Islam.  Oh, don't forget why religions have not withered away, they are first and foremost, social organizations

Who Gets A Pardon?

That's an easy question to answer.  Decent people get most of the pardons.  Hold it, don't give yourself a wedgie, I'll let you define "decent."  Oh, you don't have any data, any facts, that will enable you to create a definition.  Fear not, between ProPublica and the DOJ we will hear a pardoner's tale in the near future.  I rather expect "decent" to wind up reflecting trial outcomes in our everyday justice system.

Details Emerge on Government Study of Presidential Pardons

Book Review

"Lawrence Wittner's 2009 book, Confronting the Bomb: A Short History of the World Nuclear Disarmament Movement, has an overarching message that will surprise even nuclear policy experts, because Wittner starts with an incontrovertible historical fact almost wholly forgotten today: For several years after Hiroshima, the ultimate aspiration of the disarmament crowd was not just to eliminate nuclear weapons, but to create a federal republic of the world to control them. Though world government did not come to pass, the movement had a vital impact, from the Truman administration's first major nuclear initiatives through the Reagan years. Is democratic federal world government desirable and achievable? If not, is there an alternative world order that might eliminate war and standing militaries from the human condition? These sorts of questions are conspicuous only by their complete absence from the contemporary policy debate."

WHAT’S NEW Robert L. Park Thursday, 9 Aug 2012 Washington, DC

1. THE LONG, HOT SUMMER: WHERE HAS WHAT’S NEW BEEN? You don’t really want to know. Nevertheless, What’s New lives and there’s a lot we need to catch up on, so let’s get started.

2. CURIOSITY: THE ADVENTURES OF A VIRTUAL ASTRONAUT. Launching the Mars Science Laboratory Rover on a 150,000,000 mile journey to Gale Crater on Mars was a lot easier than landing it safely once it got there, but NASA pulled the incredible landing maneuver off perfectly. After all, this was science-NASA, the part of NASA that explores the moons of Saturn with unmanned spacecraft, and uses space telescopes to discover exoplanets orbiting distant stars. The new Rover, which also answers to the whimsical name “Curiosity,” will explore Gale Crater for one Martian year (687 Earth days) looking for evidence of extraterrestrial life. This may call for a sample return mission, but it’s still the greatest quest in science. There are, however, two NASAs. Curiosity is also called on to evaluate the “habitability” of Mars. That’s a concession to astronaut- NASA, the larger “half” of NASA’s budget. Astronaut-NASA dominated the space program from Apollo to the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station, which trapped astronaut-NASA in low-Earth orbit. But as I pointed out in my article in Slate Magazine on Monday, the astronaut program simply must not be allowed to control NASA as long as there is a search for extraterrestrial life.

3. CELL PHONES: PROTECTING AMERICA FROM MICROWAVE PHOTONS? Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has introduced the Cell Phone Right to Know Act (H.R. 6358) requiring radiation warning labels on mobile communication devices. If passed, the warning labels will inform consumers of the SAR (specific absorption rate) of their device. But knowing the SAR of their cell phones will be no help to consumers anyway, since numerous studies find no evidence linking SAR to actual health effects. However, the Kucinich Bill also calls for new research into cell-phone health effects since past research found zip. The bill would also compel the Environmental Protection Agency to review and update its radiation-emission guidelines, despite the absence of any problem. We’ve been down this road before. The power-line-radiation fiasco in the 1990s terrified millions of people who thought the fields from electric power lines in their homes might lead to childhood leukemia. It took years to convince the public that power-line fields are completely harmless. Many of those misled the public on power lines are at it again on cell phones.

4. GUNS: THE ADVENTURE OF LIVING IN A WORLD WITHOUT GUN LAWS. Even as some in Congress seeks to protect us from feeble microwave photons, anyone can obtain an assault weapon that spews out 100 lead bullets per minute, each of which can blow half your head off. There is no justification for allowing such weapons in a civilized society. “Aye, there’s the rub.”

For Profit Colleges

Oh Shit, I'm Doomed

It's Hurricane Season, my fav.  Now I'm sure one of them will come up the coast, bend a bit west, and blow up the Chesapeake until it comes the Rappahannock.  Then it will turn a bit more west and follow the river right to my front yard and destroy my house.   I'm a tad paranoid about hurricanes, but Mrs. Jake loves it here.

US forecasters raise Atlantic hurricane outlook

Hawking the Merch -- Barack's One, Two for Bucks

Today Barack is blue. He bets I am too. We're upset that Willard has raised more money than us. It's hard not to gag and heave. It must cost a lot to run a grassroots campaign. That's one. If I commiserate and send him a buck or two, I can still hang and shoot hoops. That's two.

Of course, as the first term has shown there's not much correlation between the what's said in a grassroots campaign and what's done and not done in the subsequent administration.

Jake --

The headlines are talking about how you and I got beat again by the other side in fundraising.

Those headlines aren't going away. I will be outspent in this election. And we will not win the ad wars on TV and radio -- right now, the other side is outspending us on TV by at least 2-to-1 in most battleground states.

And that's OK. But only if we're able to keep the spending gap close enough so that our investments in a truly grassroots campaign pay off.

I believe in that model, and I'm betting that you do, too.

It's moments like these that I need you to act on that belief. Can you make a donation of $45 or more today?

Thank you,

P.S. -- To say thanks for all you're doing for me and for this campaign, we're inviting a couple grassroots supporters -- and their guests -- to New York for a special event with some basketball greats. Even if you don't share my love for basketball, I'd love to meet you. If you're interested, make a donation here today, and you'll be automatically entered to join us. I may even challenge you to a quick shootaround.

She also needs to leave the org in toto!

Nancy Brinker has stepped down as the boss of Komen.  However, this appears to be more of a mollifying ruse to appease those who think she and her cronies crossed the line when they defunded Planned Parenthood. Ms. Brinker will say goodbye to the title but still run the shop.  No!

I cannot trust Komen.  They politicized and religiousized abortion to win Congressional favor.  It's tawdry.  They are not a women's health org., they are an org that serves certain segments of the female population, unlike Planned Parenthood which serves all women.  In essence, screw Komen.  Oh, Brinker, per Charity Navigator makes $471,000 a year--that's excessive for a charity for me.  What is the right amount?

Komen president resigning, founder shifting roles

Pandering for the gay too young to vote bloc?

The Boy Scouts ban gays, but they accept adult pervs to take the boys camping.  It's a very strange organization.  Obama has come out, he has his own version of a closet when it comes to gay rights, he opposes the BSA's ban on gay scouts.

Obama's position is not surprizing, however how quickly he has shared his views is breathtaking.  It's  blisteringly fast for him.  He only took three weeks to get his act together.  Now about the other bozo, what's he have to say about gays and the BSA?

In a 1994 political debate in Massachusetts, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney expressed support for gay participation in the Scouts, but said it was up to the organization to decide.

“I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue,” Romney said then. “I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Oops! Willard better get out his flip-flops or he will lose the ever drooling Jesus jockey vote.

Nation's Supreme Asses Take Note

Dear Roberts and the Robes, y'all decided that corporations and money need to be treated as though both are people.  Y'all really protected their First Amendment rights.  Y'all served your masters well.  It's time to go on alert, because coming this Fall, there may be a Facebook suit.

Is the "like" button protected under the First Amendment?  I wonder how the most corpulent originalist will decide?  He'll have to declare "no" since Facebook did not exist in 1776 and buttons were only found on clothing.  Hold it, what about political buttons?  Maybe the fat man will sing for Facebook, if he does then Alito, Thomas and Roberts will know how to vote as Kennedy flips a coin.

A Facebook court battle: Is ‘liking’ something protected free speech?

Gardners Take Note

Scotts Miracle Gro has given a Romney Super-Pac $200,000.  Scotts is a publicly traded company, so did the stockholders, the owners, approve this expense?  Remember all those execs in most companies did not invent squat.  They went to B-school to learn how to manage things.  They forget they are caretakers not inventors, founders or owners (for the most part, their stock was not purchased it was given to them as a bonus to keep salaries within tax deductible bounds).

Okay, if this pisses you off, as a Trog or a Jackass, then boycott Scott's products.  Reduce their sales and send them a polite e-mail telling to keep the fuck out of politics, especially Super-Pacs.

If it doesn't piss you off, then buy Scott's and go diddle with your hemorrhoids since it's clear you are thus an asshole.  It should piss everybody off.

Scotts Miracle-Gro goes out on a limb with political donation

We're not electing a Prez, it's an Ad Man

Heard about any substantive issues lately?  I bet not, but I bet you've seen an ad for both of the Bozos running for First Copywriter.  Of course the ad is for us to send them money so they can run more adds to amass more money to run more ads.  Time to puke.

Now they're pissing off Pandora users.  Just because you listen to X you're pitched a spiel for one of the  Bozos, they want your email.  Yeah, listen, see an ad, respond and you win a grundle of e-mail ad/pitches.  It's pretty damned cheap, so much for the dignity and honor of the Presidency.

Hell I thought the Shrub had taken us to new lows.  He put the damned bar on the ground.  These guys have burrowed way under it---Pandora Asks Listeners to Share Their Emails With Romney

Makin' Mo Money, The Bain WaY

Hawking the Merch -- More on the First Basketball

I didn't send them any money.  I didn't sign up.  I do not want to "hang out" with him, much less with the "best" basketball players.  I  assume they all have too many tattoos anyway.  I don't think I've touched a basketball since seventh or eighth grade.  Besides I cannot afford the additional tax burden on winning the equivalent of $3,200 or whatever it comes to.  Debasing the presidency one raffle at a time, now that's a legacy for the history books.

Here's today's pitch--

Jake --

In a couple weeks, you (or someone you know who loves basketball) could be hanging out with some of the best basketball players on earth.

The Obama Classic is on August 22nd. Take your shot at being there, and you could end up shooting hoops with this guy.

Good luck,

Obama for America

God Hates Us Front -- It's Hot!

The batshit crazy eveangefundies have assured us that climate change is not man made.  We have to have faith in their fantasy.  The changes all belong to god.  They also have assured us that we have no worries since the same dude will provide for us.  After all we are made in his image.  Ouch.

Yep, I understand god has sent down a mess of plants that thrive on arid soil and a new animal or two.  Yep, look, over there in the sky, is it a flying pig?

U.S. has hottest month on record in July 2012 NOAA says

For the first time in my life, I am glad I was not born today, but in the past.   Normally I've looked at the contemporary world and been envious of those born today.  Can you imagine the science courses available today!   The future knowledge is exciting.  I've always seen a great future for myself if I were born today.

However, climate change has stopped my visions of future progress.  I think the greed heads and Jesus jockeys will insure we will not act until it is too damn late.  So I'll die in another 40 years ( I plan on living a long time, 105 is a reasonable goal).  If I reach my goal, I'll see if my optimism returns by then or not.  I'll let you know if I'm still doing this blog.

Until U.S. society bags its obsession with the public display of religiosity and faithiness,  we are pretty well doomed.  Seeing who can out Jesus whom does not a climate recovery policy make, it just perpetuates stupidity.  Yep, we'll all fry together when we go--who needs nukes!

Oops, sorry about that

The Syrian revolting Arabs are in a tiff.  They thought the U.S. would leap into the breach so to speak and help them topple the ever evil Assad.  They thought so since our public officials have really razzed on Assad as a universal baddie, a multi-verse one at that.

Of course the revolters forgot that Assad has been a U.S. contractor who provided oodles of Syrian jails, jailers, and torturers for the U.S.'s  CIA and other assorted government agencies.  Damn even the Ag Dept.?   We'd bag 'em and whisk them off to Syria for interrogation.  It was rendition and extraordinary.  Oh, don't forget the practice is not illegal, it's just not done.  Obama only put the policy on hiatus.

Syrians might think about what U.S. assistance means by reading a bit of Middle Eastern recent history before they piss and moan.

Syrian rebels feel abandoned, betrayed by U.S

Nobody LIkes Willard

Come on, do you know anyone who is truly impressed with Willmit Rombot?  He's the GOP's rominee and most folks think he just plain sucks, some think he's whatever comes after blowing chunks, even the Trogs don't like him.

Romney’s favorability ratings stall

Old Farts Report

As an old fart, that begins when you go on Medicare, life's pretty good.  It seems like that contented feeling is widely shared from the tyro old fart to the "oh my god she's still living" crowd.  Before the younger bunch become envious and resentful, let me remind them of two things.  First, you will become an old fart but don't rush it.  That is the second point, once you join the old fart club, you know you are on the downhill slide of life.  Yep, death becomes real, so don't rush it.

Life's just good for most older Americans

Man of the People?

Let's see Gitmo still exists.  Oh, the guy did finally get around to signing DADT, but not much else.   I wonder, are home health care workers a large enough voting block to give a shit about?  I know they don't make enough to donate and buy help from their government.  Yep, man of the people.  Write in Buddy Roemer instead.

Home health workers sweat Obama rule on pay

Xe Did It!

Actually it's the Shrub's Mercs, Blackwater, who did it.  What's "it"?  Oh, they were the Shrub's arms smugglers.  They were caught.  They've been fined.  Don't you love the way the Shrub and his Uncle Dork outsourced our military to Mercs?  Come on, if we're going to smuggle arms, that's why we have an Army!

Company previously known as Blackwater agrees to $7.5 million fine in arms smuggling case

Bless My Stuffed Ballot Box!

Who will win the election this Nov.?  Damn, with all the changes to voting laws we may not really know until weeks or months after the election.  At least rest easy that no one fraudulently voted for Obama or Willard.  Of course we'll also be sure that the elderly, poor and non-whites did not vote for Obama or anyone else.

This seems like an opportunity for American voters to develop spines, stand tall, and tell the corrupters of our government to take a hike by writing in Buddy Roemer's name for President!  I wonder what would happen Mr. Roemer did win a presidential write in.  That would be mind boggling fantastic.

Voter ID lawsuits could delay election results again

Welfare for the poor

Unlike welfare for the rich, welfare for the poor seems to make Trogs implode on their own wedgie.  Think about it, it's quite a sight.   Willbot von Rominee has declared Obama will destroy welfare as we know it.  I know it's weird, but come on, it's Willard.

Does anyone know of a honest, factual, candid assessment of the effects on people from Clinton's changes to welfare for the poor?  Without some decent analysis we're condemned to listening to mindless bloviation in our governmental fields from Bossie and Elsie (I'll let you determine what name to associate with which bozo).   When Bossie or Elsie leave a field, you do realize all  we're left with

Come on, really, you still trust a banker?

Bankers will always find a way to make money.  Bankers are usually the reason national boycotts don't work.  If bankers didn't help the scum running Iran, then Iran would have no non-Iranian money to spend on trade.  Of course they deny their actions, but like I asked, do you still trust a banker?

Watchdog's Iran ambush leaves StanChart reeling

Hawking the Merch -- Now it's basketball!

The Prez keeps selling himself off for short term usage.  Now if we give him a few bucks and are the lucky winner of the drawing, we'll get to shoot hoops with him a few friends as the Obama Classic.  Wow, that sucks.  I have 1.) no interest in basketball, 2.) didn't recognize the names, 3.) found basketball to be almost as moronic as golf and 4.) have no desire to breathe the same air in the same room with Mr. Obama.  His raffles may raise money but they debase the currency so to speak.

Here's today's spiel, from the e-mail I assume Marlon and I are on a first name basis.  What a putz--

Jake --

I'm so jealous of you that I can barely write the rest of this email.

Imagine shooting hoops with Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, Sheryl Swoopes, Kyrie Irving, and Alonzo Mourning. Oh, and President Obama and Michael Jordan will be there, too.

Now stop dreaming and make it happen. You and a guest of your choice could join President Obama and some of the greatest basketball stars for a special night at the Obama Classic.

Pitch in $45 or whatever you can, and you'll be automatically entered for a chance to win.

Hit the court with Patrick Ewing and Melo? Trade stories with the President? This is the kind of stuff your kids will tell their kids, and no one will believe it until you show them a photo.

Don't worry if suiting up with hoops stars isn't your thing.

I know you've got a kid or a friend who would love nothing more than to play with their heroes while you cheer them on from a courtside seat.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to chip in and support the President, it's time to get off the bench.

Donate $45 to automatically get your name in the hat:

Even though I'm jealous, I hope you win.

Remember to vote this November, but make sure you vote for anyone other than Obama or Willard.

Global Warming

Today's bullshit about the truth of global warming reminds me of the early days of our nuclear testing program from WWII on.  Federal officials, military and civilian, did not want the American people to understand fallout and the risks of excessive radiation.  They had a weapon and wanted the people to be uninformed, obedient,  nebbishes.

They promulgated massive ignorance by abuse of the classification system.  They classified everything about fallout, radiation and bombs.  It was all to protect national secrets of course.  They succeeded for a time until some scientists forced info to be released by basically showing our ace leaders to be buffoons they always have been, are and will be.  Take a minute and read about The Baby Tooth Project  and then read about Barry Commoner.

So many people are pushed and pulled into climate ignorance by pols and their masters.  Too many of us listen to scientific Luddites.  The science is out there.  It's solid.  The problem is the climatologists have not done a decent job educating the public about it, they've left it to George.  We know what happens when we leave things to George now don't we.

Maybe the climate crowd needs to pull off a project similar to the Baby Tooth Project but directed at climate change and fixing the mess.

Here's a piece that talks about-- Mind the gaps between climate science and social policy

Complete the Circle

Why haven't they asked Sarah Palin to join the Trog festival of death, deception, and decay in Tampa? If you were politically aware in the 50s and 60s could you ever imagine a GOP convention larded with such lamebrains as will be speaking this year?  The GOP had devolved into a fringe party which persists due to a former decency thrown out when the GOP decided win by pandering to Jesus jockeys, dullards, and redneck bigots.  Sorry extremism boils down to a vice every time and terminates the rule of law.  Now that I think about it, they are all just evangefundies hanging around waiting for the end of days.  Oh, and they are pretty much a party of rich old white guys and suckups.  They need to re-groups and form a new party.

Sending and landing Curiosity on the Martian surface is beyond amazing.  It's science and technology at its finest.  Today we have footage of Curiosity's descent to the surface.  Wow!  I'd rather we put our tax dollars into NASA than DOD and death.

Power is Power

From Czar Ivan to Lenin to Stalin to Putin, it's all the same, they lock up or kill anyone they don't like.  Pussy Riot is probably going into the Gulag (it hasn't changed over there).

Eating Their Young

It's nice to see Trogs skewer each other, maybe they'll spend all their time going after each other and leave elections and governance to the adults who think all people should have a decent life in this country.

Hate Music?

Why not?  We use music for any ends we can imagine--think of all that goosestep inducing, patriotic flag waving music we use to befuddle the mind and cloud the vision as we follow "leaders" who take us down some idiotic destructive path to dying.  When the music is the other guy's we're disgusted and repulsed.  Here's this mornings update on the Sikh shooter.

To Lie or Misspeak?

For a pol, those are his or her options.  About the Mormon tax tiff, since I think Willard amounts to less than a bucket of cold spit, I'll just assume Harry Reid is telling a politician's truth even about Mittrich's taxes.  Hm, factually Reid it probably full of it, but he's probably right in that there is something quite embarrassing embedded in the last ten years or so of Romwill's taxes.

Four Pinocchios for Harry Reid’s claim about Mitt Romney’s taxes

About Time

It always amazes me how peasants never defend themselves from bad guys such as the Taliban or the good guys who wish to liberate them.  They get caught in the crossfire.  They die.  They live in fear.

The only way people can rid themselves of the "good" and bad guys is to beat the crap out of them.  Funny, it's too easy to accept the situation and just hope they'll all go away. Yeah, it's kind of like going along with some schmuck who tells us "it's for the greater good" or that the ends justified the deed.  I guess we're not that different from the Afghan peasants now are we?

Rapture Fans, Take Note

It may be the beginning of the end of days.  If it is, then anti-semites can be assured that most Jews will be dead in about 84 months as the good Christians ascend to heaven and god smites the rest.  What?

Oh, Israel was attacked from the Sinai area.  The attackers, apparently Islamist Bedouins, were killed by Israeli aircraft.  Egyptian leaders are calling the Bedouins infidels.  It's a bit of a mess.  You can bet our nutjobs are drooling over this being the kick off of the Rapture.

Oh, you haven't kept up with the batshit crazy evangefundies in our midst?  Here are a couple of pieces which cover most of their Armgeddonish gibberish, read with about 5,000,000 grains of salt and a couple of six-packs.

How do people ever come to believe this crap?

Sounds about right

The Sikh shooter is just another typical over tattooed neo-Nazi white supremacist racist American.  I know our pols and pundits will wax on about domestic terrorism, that allows them to fan the fears of terrorism to insure they stay employed fighting the war on terror.

The shooter was a nut job who decided it was time to kill non-whites.  It was a racist act.  Every act of violence is not a terrorist act.

Twitter does something.  I'm not sure what.  It's popular, but then again so are the Kardashians.   Of those who tweet, how do they feel about Obama and Mitt the Twit?

Who Uses Social Media?

What's With the Defense Cuts?

What cut Defense?  That can makes a Trog's goosebumps implode!  How can a patriot put freedom and democracy in peril by cutting $50 billion from the DOD budget!  Quick, take it out of Medicaid instead and keep those white collar welfare recipients employed.

Ah, there's the difference between knuckle dragging Trogs and Democrats.  Trog's constituents are affluent and educated, they work for defense contractors -- they donate and vote.  Did you ever run into a poor Trog?

Democrats on the other hand govern for the least amongst us.  Their constintuency does not always vote or have the money to vote.  We all have seen low income Democrats.

Hmm, the party that loves to thump the Bible in public is not the party that knows a people and a nation are only as good as how we all treat the least amongst us.

Matthew 25:31-46 King James Version (KJV) 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Protecting Boys From What?

The Boy Scouts must think gayness is a contagious disease so they keep the gays out.  Of course they, as with the Catholic Church, have no problems protecting adult pervs in their midst.  Would you allow your kids to be alone in the rectory with a priest?  Okay would you allow them to be alone in a tent with a scout leader?

Once Again

Yeah, once again, guns don't kill people, people kill people.  Funny how the mass killings seem to always  involve guns.  This time it's six people in a Sikh temple on a Sunday morning.  I can't help but think that the shooter thought he was killing Muslims (turbans and beards).  Watch for the NRA to defend guns and encourage gun sales as an article of faith and religious liberty.  Have fatih, yes, but trust your glock.  You can protect yourself at church.

Business as usual

How do companies and organizations pass money to pols and their handlers without any breaking any laws?  Oh, since 99% of the folks involved are in it for the money, that's easy.  All you have to do is ghost write them a book or better yet, hire them to give a speech.  Speaking fees are the current way for bag men to assist the basically corrupt people so attracted to today's politics.  Let's face it, the master of fees is Bill Clinton.  I wonder how Obama will do?  He can ask one of his aides for pointers.

Obama associate got $100,000 fee from affiliate of firm doing business with Iran

Are these the kinds of people we want in positions of power and influence?  Why do we elect them and their trash?  Don't forget, it's bipartisan and endemic.

The Presidential Race -- Go Shopping!

The Trog and the Jackass learned a thing or two from the Shrub.  The Shrub ducked discussion of the Iraq War by emulating Alfred E. Newman as he asked us to go shopping for freedom.  As long as he said nothing and the press remained on their knees, we ignored a war which should never have occurred.  We shopped and now wonder about ourselves and our nation.

The current race for the White House is issue less.  We're being told effectively to go "shopping."  The two bozos spend all their time trashing each other's character over marginal issues.  We yawn and go to the mall or watch endless rerun marathons of NCIS on USA (it's patriotic isn't it).    We behave as though we  think we're living in Eden.  We're not.  We're being dumbed.

One issue those twits have avoided is climate.  Have you noticed the weather this Summer yet?  Climate change is real.  It still can be reversed, but not if all we do is bury our heads in a giant Cinnabon of silence.

Mr. Multiple Choice for Prez?

How many positions has Willard adopted on any issue along the way from his high school bullying days to today?  Sometimes they are too numerous to count.  Will Obama use Willard's past positions to expose his fickle opportunistic core.   See, Willard has a core, it's whatever he thinks will work in the moment.

Calling Tehran

The NRC is poised to license a uramium enrichment technology that will compared to gas centrifuges will be:

Plants would be 75 percent smaller,
use less energy,
enrich fuel-grade uranium to weapons-grade in fewer steps,
have no distinctive chemical or thermal emissions revealing plant's location,
be easier to build without detection,
and be an efficient producer of uranium for nukes!

So much for our government actually being concerned with proliferation of nukes.

SILEX and proliferation

Funny how these kinds of things don't make it to cable news, much less than the papers.   If SILEX makes it to CNN, can you guess why it does?

Do you watch HBO's show "Treme?"  If not, you have missed a great bit of TV.  Treme follows the lives of several people in the Treme neighborhood of post Katrina New Orleans.  People, despite their social and economic differences face and live through the same challenges of rebuilding their lives, homes, and culture.  That culture contains  a lot of fine music.  The show needless to say provides viewers with a bounty of music.  It's worth watching just for the jazz alone.

Treme has been on for two seasons.  It's been renewed for a third and may go to a fourth.  The Times-Picayune has "embraced the show as an accurate and honest representation of the city." The Times-Picayune even has a Treme website.

What is that?  I don't know quite how to define it, but I know it when I see it.  I see it in every Catholic who remains part of that Church.  Their bishops recently made a political power play using the rubric of religious liberty.  That is total bullshit, unless you are also partial to idea that religious liberty protect pedophile priests from prosecution.

In Case You Were Wondering

Did the shootings in Colorado change the way we feel about guns?  Nope, not one bit.  The mindless, knuckle dragging, acid drooling, batshit crazy gun nuts still want their guns.  Decent normal folk still want to control gun ownership.  Not that I am biased, but who the hell needs to own an assault rifle with a 100 round clip?  I know that rogue yams are scary, but that's overkill.  It must be fiendish turnips instead.

Shitting in the nest

Have you enjoyed this Summer?  Has the heat and drought sunk in yet?  For 99% of us, we know that we've shit in our nest, fouled it up real good, and now reap what we have shat.  Of course there are the 1% of climate change skeptics, they've sure man did not do it.  I hope we've all delighted with this Summer, it's the new normal and will get worse in succeeding years.

Oh, to the 1%, god did it.  God made man pollute his creation.  Remember he promised no more devastating world wide floods.  This time he's going to kill us off through our own efforts to husband the world by destroying the entire ecosystem.  God is a sneaky bastard.   Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is a god given attribute.  We have snatched unless...

Arab Normal -- Mutual Annihilation

If Arabs knock off Arabs, that's just dandy.  However, if they try to end their  suicide pact by diverting their murderous ways to Israel and begin killing the Jews, you can bet we will step in.  The right to kill the Jews is reserved to god when he/she/it brings on the end of days.  And that opinion is backed by lots of campaign cash and evangefundie votes.   If Israel disappears then so does the chance to be raptured.  God's a weird sucker and his followers are even weirder.

Hawking the Merch -- Selling the President

I've posted several of the raffle-me  e-mail fund raising pitches I've received from Obama and the Jackasses.  I am not on the Trog mailing lists.  I used to receive phone spiels from the Dems until I tired of receiving them.  I became a bit nasty with the callers.  Also if Mrs. Jake took a call for me, she was kind enough to tell callers I do not communicate by  telephone.   The phone calls have gone to almost zero.

I think it was yesterday that I received about ten e-mails from Barack, Michelle, Joe, and more people whom I do not know.  It's so nice to be on a first name basis with them all.  Needless to say, I have not given them a cent.  Apparently some folks have come to love the e-mails as much as I loved the phone pitches.

Campaigns drown supporters with fundraising e-mails in the race for cash

I do wonder what is the minimum size donation for a successful e-mail based fund raiser.   If you send out X e-mails, and receive Y donations for $z.zz.  What are the value of X,Y, & Z?   What is the break even amount?  Is it 25 cents?  How much is the web overhead?  How few people do you need?  Could a continuous fund raising effort seeking $1 or $2 a  week, month, or some interval succeed?  Maybe such an approach could raise funds to counter the rich?

It's Time to Ban All Football

I've been reading about the physical hazards of football since the 1970s.  It's become worse with each passing decade.  The profits however have become much larger.  It's one thing to see grown men beat themselves to death, but it's another to realize that their horrendous practices will keep on trickling down to grade school teams.  Gee, trickle down does work--it makes things worse.

Assuming Mr. Will has his facts in line, they appear correct to me, then he's nailed it.  Football is a mistake.  Let's erase it.

Football’s problem with danger on the field isn’t going away
