It's Simple

We should leave now.  Don't wait any longer, just leave the rubble pile to the Rubbles.  We never should have invaded in the first place.  Then we should not have created a new enemy to replace al Qaeda, the Taliban, but we did.  It's one of two major Bush fuck ups that will affect our lives for a very long time.

Afghan president says U.S. should start talks with Taliban or leave

If you voted for Dubya and you're worried that life in Iraq is going awry, it's not.  It's going according to the Shrub's master plan designed to insure that he will be considered one of the top five presidents in 2100.  No one really understand the Shrub's plan, but life in Iraq is just as Dubya wants it---

SOTU, SOwhat

It's that time of year again.  The Prez tells us about the state of the Union, it's always okay.  Dems will applaud on cue.  Trogs will sit on each other's thumbs and murmur on demand.  Pundits will analyze the blather.

FOX savants will give it nothing but thumbs down, hell they'll also give it ten toes down too.  MSNBC's wizards will tingle all over and be giddy over such a dynamic, insightful, serious, thoughtful, and inspiring speech.  Hell they might even hope the second term will be about change.

The rest of us, TV viewers who tune in, will either be bored into new levels of ennui or be on the road to recovery from hangovers.  Hangovers?  Well, what word will you pick for throwing back vodka shots during Barry's gabfest?

Hmm, has there ever been a SOTU that mattered?  From Ike on, have any of them mattered?  I saw a piece that indicated they do matter, that is, in a most negative way.  If you give the opposing parties response, it's like a political death knell, you kiss off any hopes for higher office even before you finish your speech.

Obama looks to big State of the Union speech to jump-start second term

Since they're already so politicized...

What's polticized?  Well, just about everything, including the Olympics.  Maybe it's time to end them and knock off the kumbyah crap.  We do not need them at all.  Really, would you attend the Sochi games?

Olympic Fears Rattle Athletes and Families

I'm Surprized

Not that 46 percent say their member of Congress deserves reelection, but that anyone thinks it will matter at all. Dems will find new Dems just like the old Dems. Trogs will find new Trogs just as Troggy as the old Trogs.

Not much will change until voters, the rest of y'all do not matter at all, decide to bag both parties. We need new parties or need a new emphasis in the old parties.

Gee, Dems could decide that they want to build effective government. The Trogs could be for ineffective government but that's what they are today. Yeah, Trogs would have to be for effective government too. For something to be effective it implies measurement and that would make for some interesting and serious political discussion.

A new low: Just 46 percent say their member of Congress deserves reelection

I can't help it

What do you call a Swedish fundamentalist?  Oh, he's a Bjorn again.

I love the way pols speak in vaguery.  For example, when Rep. Billy Tom Slugpupper (R. Crapeola, TN) tells us he's going to fight for small government, I doubt if anyone really knows what he means.  Small is a relative term.  It has meaning only in the context of something larger and then only if some metrics are stated for a dimension of comparison.

For example, Mr. Slugpupper could mean small in terms of dollars spent by the federal government.  If the current U.S. budget is about 3.7 trillion then what is small?  3.6?  3.5?  1.0?  How do we determine what is small and for that matter what is large?

Of course, Mr. Slugpupper could provide us with a metric.  If we assume his $170,000 salary is large, then we can ask how much less would he work for as a United States Congressman.  Does small mean a 5% ($8,500), 10% ($17,000) 20% ($34,000)?  When the way he and his colleagues talk I assume small would be more along the line of an 80% ($136,000) cut.   Would the dear Rep. work for small wages in a small government?

Maybe the GOP will provide measurable items to help us understand what they actually mean by their bullshit.  Oh, ditto for the Dems, I just prefer to pick on the Trogs.

Bankers and Financiers Take Note

Given that y'all have fought making credit cards more secure (in order to really maximize already outrageous profits) you will now have to act.  If you do not act, under current law, you will take it in your oversize shorts.  So reach into that fat corporate wallet and take credit cards into the 21st century.   Get us on smart cards now.  If you try to make the customer pay for it, you might restore the cash economy or worse.  Check the greed just a bit and act.

Arab Democracy?

One has to ask, can an Islamic Arab state ever exist that adopts liberty, equality and democracy?  The answer is no.  It will remain no until Arabs remove religion from their statehouse.   Egypt now resembles all the other Arabic shitholes.  Want to take a vacation to Egypt?  Egypt will become worse unless the military retakes control and reestablishes a dictatorship or the Islamists pull off a theocracy similar to Iran.  For the average person, it's lose/lose and will be so  until most of the people tell all of the religious leaders to shut up and shit down or be dead.  The world has an excess of clerics.

How can women be Repubs?

When a probable candidate for 2016 says this kind of shit--

"If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it," Huckabee said at the RNC winter meeting. "Let's take that discussion all across America."

I really have to wonder about the Repubs. All things considered, I have an inkling that the ones who have libido issues are men.  After all it is the viagra popping rich old white guys party.  Yeah they seem to obsess about women's genitalia a tad too much, that and they're just plain old batshit crazy.

Two Things

First, it's shit like this that can drive voters into the "liberty" loving GOP.  The Nanny State can be avaricious and take from the least among us (pennies do add up over time).

Second, it's one more example of what happens when Obama decided to get in bed with the members of the health care industry rather then opt for a real national health care system or at least Medicare for All.

Annals of Government Contracts

Government offers contracts partially due to the idiotic notion that government can't do much right.  Here's an example, more normal than not, of what occurs when the private sector gets the job.  The only thing the private sector gets is that government coffers are so damned easy to fleece.  Hell, even if you get caught not doing the job, you can get the job fixing what you fucked up in the first place (go read about SAIC).

Of course those who incomes depend on spookery will object.  I bet we'll be hearing from the Security Industrial Congressional Complex very, very soon.

India is one fucked up place

India police say village elders ordered gang-rape

According to police, the village council in Subalpur village ordered the woman to pay a fine of 25,000 rupees ($400) when her relationship with the man was discovered. But when her family said they were too poor to pay, the council ordered the gang rape.

I wonder when our submission loving GOP evangefunies will adopt Indian justice as a sound practice?  India reminds me of the GOP.

Controversy in mobility

Hm, not too long ago we're we being told social mobility is pretty well over in the U.S.  Now some other resreach has been done, mobility is back.  As always, on the way to the top of the dung heap, it helps to have parents with decent incomes and educations.

Economic mobility hasn’t changed in a half-century in America, economists declare

More GOP Bullshit

Ladies, submit.  Funny how the guys never stumble on any quotes that would make them submit.  Odd isn't it?  I'm sure the guys give equal weight to every sentence in the New Testament.  I wonder, if the ladies do not enjoy submission, then doesn't Jesus's little rule about loving all the same trump Paul's obsession with misogyny?  Submit?  I have a feeling that most of the women I've known in my life would respond with two words, "My ass!"

The Safety Net Mesh Gets Bigger

As it does so, more and more people fall through.  They wind up with nothing, not even hope.  Hm, I wonder when they'll start thinking "I've got nothing else to lose" and collectively proceed to get out some of those modern day semi-automatic banana clipped pitchforks and emulate Robin Hood.  Who'd Prince John in North Carolina?

After 12 Years It's Come Down to This

If we can't have 10,000 troopies in Rubbleistan, then we'll pull out.  Heck of a way to end a war, but then remember, the Shrub started it, fucked it up, put it on hold and passed it to Barry.  Maybe we need to reevaluate how and when we allow these Bozos to send us to war.  Look, those who died in Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan really did so for naught.  War is just a Prez and his cabal's way getting around their massive inability to do economics and diplomacy.   War is the province of the inept.  We seem to blessed with ineptitude.

Good News (for Virginians)

The Trogs did not win AG Herring's former Senate seat.  Now, it's on to the contested seat to replace Lt. Gov. Northam's seat.  Nice votes is close so it is contested.  All in all, this past election allowed a bit of decency to return to the state.

Virginia Way?

If you want to be sure there aren't anymore "crooks" such as Bob McDonnell and his wife, then make a simple rule--Gifts are illegal, period.  Not one thin dime for any elected or appointed person and that include his immediate and extended family if appropriate.  There's no reason for gifts, they're just bribes.  How about it, not one thin dime?

I use Amazon a lot.  Granted I do live in a rural area which leads me toward online shopping.  If I were urban would I still use Amazon a lot?  Yeah, I would.  Why?  Well, usually I know what I want, so I am not a browser.  Then there are the people who run and staff  stores, driving, and parking.  I have yet to have an adverse experience with Amazon, but I have had plenty with stores.

Why Amazon?  They have what I want, they deliver to my door, and I don't have to deal with assholes.    Want bricks and mortar to come back?

Funny Headline Time

This was on the front page  --Iowa governor readies to battle for GOP’s soul.  Everyone knows if there's one thing the GOP lacks, it soul.  Come to think of it, they also have no heart, no brain, no liver, no spleen.   I'm not sure what they are, but they're not human.  The GOP is a fantastic source of laughs.  Oh, that's it, they are a joke.

Hey, it's just misspeaking

That is, if you are in the candidate's party, otherwise it's lies.  Hell, let's face it, they all lie.  We might as well assume they can lie all the time.  Why does anyone believe anything said by any pol at all?  Did you vote for Obama because he said something? I didn't, I voted for him because he was the Democratic candidate.  If I was in Texas, I'd vote for Davis (she'll most likely be the nominee), not because she has a cool story, but because she would be the Democratic candidate.

If she faces opponents in a primary, then relative truth telling matters.  Voters either opt for the biggest liar or the one perceived to lie, er, misspeak the least.  Is Ms. Davis the greater or lesser liar?

Hmm, did Obama win the primaries because he was the biggest liar in the field?  He seems to have blown more smoke than the rest.

Will it work?

If the over the air broadcasters abandon pilots as a way to find new shows that might succeed by following NetFlix's lead approach instead, will it really matter?  Come on, do you really think ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox can develop shows such as "House of Cards?"  It's the same crew who will be making the decisions.

Ohio's Torture Chamber

In other states it's called the execution chamber.  In Ohio it is the state's premier torture chamber.  The state knew what would occur.  The state proceeded.  Death by torture occurred.  I assume this legal killing conforms with the desires for collective vengeance of the majority of adults in Ohio.  I assume it  also fully meets their specifications.

We Elect Them Because We Just Love Assholes

We cannot really complain about money and politics.  We really should be mum about high living to obtain donor dollars.  We vote them in and do it again and again.  They may pass a law to curtail their greed, but since they write the laws they know the work around before the ink dries.

The Surge Failed Then, A New One Will Fail Today

The Shrub's quest for historical greatness imploded as bad guys took over Anbar province.  Fallujah and Ramadi became deadly as he and his ill-informed wartime staff developed a three part Surge to save Iraq (and his quest for being an all time top Prez).  Yep, he'd send in the marines, develop lots of economic opps for all (including Sunnis), and build a solid liberty loving democratic political system  to unite Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds and make all other Arab dictators envious.  I bet he envisioned a United States of Araby.

The U.S. government knows how to wage war, it's dismal at economic and diplomatic change.  Hence, the military surge worked.  Two thirds of the surge failed.  We left, per Iraq's request.  Bush's Iraq now enjoys what he developed as he strove for greatness (he's not that smart).
